You can toast other kinds of sandwiches if you pin them together with toothpicks so that the filling doesn't drip out. Toasted tuna salad sandwiches are a nice alternative, and you can do the same thing with ham or chicken salad, assuming you have somewhere cold to store them until lunch.

You can also toast peanut butter and banana sandwiches, as long as the peanut butter's chunky and you use toothpicks to hold the bread together. Or just add some tomato slices or a little ham and relish to the cheese sandwich, and toast as usual.

(-: Vary the cheese. I've read about some French president complaining that there are more than 200 different kinds of cheese in France alone -- that should take up half a year.

Try different meats, and different breads, too. Try cold sandwiches, and heat up a little water for some instant soup.

What I'd like right now is a whole-wheat ham sandwich with caraway Harvarti cheese, and maybe just a little bit of mustard on top. Serve with a dill pickle and some raw baby carrots. Mmmmm!

Also, try English muffins -- or small cakes toasted over the ring. Or marshmallows, toasted, then sandwiched between cookies! Dessert can really boost a meal!

Have fun experimenting!
