The laws vary state to state as far as animals are concerned. It also depends....Did your boyfriend have a contract when he bought the dog? He obviously did not buy from a reputable breeder if the dog had parvo. If there wasn't a contract you might have a problem.
Sorry about your dog.

If you pup was a purebred, and sold for cash, there should of been a contract that your boyfriend signed, usaully somewhere in that contract there should be a health guarantee. If there was no contract, and your pup was that sick when you bought him, then the breeder is not responsable enough to even own a dog, let alone breed one. Always remember when you buy a dog, that they should come with a vet check already done, usually first shots, since they are due at 5 weeks, and the pups are not sold untill they are 8 weeks, and a contract. If all else fails take them to small claims court, its cheap and easy..and see what you can do about having animal cruelty and or neglect charges filed, as parvo is completly treatable if caught in time and if ingnored it is a horrable way to suffer. I just breed my english bulldog, and sold her puppies, so I got to learn about all these things first hand.

If the puppy was not sold with a health guarantee, there's nothing you can do... legally, anyway.
I'd certainly call the seller and inform them of what happened... they're probably back yard breeders that are too ignorant to realize they're selling dogs with Parvo.
Demand your money back, and threaten to get the law involved. If they're as ignorant as they sound, you might just be able to scare them into doing it. But know that, legally, you don't have any rights unless you have a health guarantee.
If they happen to offer you a replacement puppy, DON'T TAKE IT. It'll probably have Parvo, too.
And, please do this for me... before you get another puppy, BLEACH everything your old puppy came into contact with. Food dishes, toys, crate... ANYTHING. Parvo is very contagious and easily spread; that stuff can stick around forever.
And if you go back to the breeder's for some reason, you need to disinfect YOURSELVES when you get home. Don't go anywhere else until you do. Parvo can ride along on shoes, clothes, hair... anything.
I'm sure your boyfriend was trying to do a sweet thing for you, but before you get another puppy, please research your breeder thoroughly before you drop hundreds of dollars on a sick puppy.
I'm sorry you had to learn this the hard way... it's a tough lesson to learn.

Where did you buy the pup? Did you get him from a breeder? Did he have his shots prior to getting Parvo? How old was the pup? Did you sign a contract of anykind?
I breed shelties and I do not sell thru a petshop nor do I recomment anyone buying from one. I give all my pups at least one round of Parvo shots and usually the 2nd round before they leave my home. They do not go outside or get exposed to any other dogs before they get their first shots. All my other dogs are also kept up to date on their shots.
I am not sure what you can do about getting any results from who you bought from. If you bought from a reputable breeder, and the pup did have their shots before being sold, they might give you a replacement pup or a reduction on another pup. Did you get your pup to the vet within 48 hours after buying him and get an exam? That is always the best thing for any new pup. And I request my buyers do this or any health problems they get after that I am not responsible for. I guarantee their health for the 48 to 72 hours until they get the vet to check them out, then depending on what the pup is exposed to, and the stress they are dealing with, accounts on the health of the pup.
It is heartbreaking for this ot happen esp in your circumstances, being it was a gift and all, I belive their is a code of ethics for a breeder to abide by and that is between you and the breeder. If it was a pet shop, I am afraid you are probably at a loss, and have learned an important lesson. Good luck.

i would say talk to your vet. they know most of the laws if you need it.. and also make sure before you accuse anyone. parvo can be gotten out of the wind or air and many other ways. parvo can strike at any time without warning. the first 48 hours is very crucial. like i said talk to your vet.
and i am so sorry for your loss i have lost pets and my friends have lost pets with this sickness. so grieve and go on and when it is time get another one. i am not trying to sound uncaring but sometimes we have to get right back up and go for the gusto again. you will never forget that pet and you shouldnt. but dont let the death of him turn you against getting another pet. i know from heartfelt experiences. i once felt the same way you do but i better now. good luck

I can only assume you bought your dog from a backyard breeder or pet store...both wrong choices. Because no St. Bernard from a good, reputable breeder would sell a dog that had parvo. There is not much you can do because this is what pet stores and byb do all the time. Sorry to hear about it.

If the puppy seller has the puppies living among inhumane conditions you can call and report them to the police for animal abuse, neglect, and endangerment. So sorry about your puppy. When you feel better adopt a puppy or dog from your local shelter. They need good homes and they are all well cared for. Some of the best dogs are adopted from shelters. I had a dog named Bronx that I adopted...he was the best ever.

I would need to know if the dog came from a private breeder or a pet store before I would commit to an answer.

If you don't have a written guarantee, all you can do is ask for a break on another one.
Although I don't know how I'd feel about getting another one from the same place, maybe just setting yourself up for another heartache.
