I would do it when the cat is sexually mature, or else he may not develop like a boy should. I'm no expert on cats, but I think that's around a year old. A vet can give you the best time for your particular cat.

Our vet has recomended we do it as soon as hes old enough to be developed. Then the Doctor can see what he is doing. The way our Doctor put was simple. If you fix him before he starts thinking of big boy kittie things, he will stay a kitten at hart for many more years. Maybe always. This also goes for dogs. We had had all three of our males altered quite young, and they are still fun to play with. They range from two to five.

It's best to have a cat-male or female-fixed around six months of age.

Kittens as small as 1-3 pounds can now be spay/neutered. You need to just call around until you find a vet who will do it. It requires a little extra attention in the anethesia but certainly can be done. My two kits were only approaching two pounds when they were neutered.

Many people do think to wait until they are a little older, like six months, however, and this has something to do with benefitting their urethra, particularly for male kittens, so they don't develop urinary tract infections later on in life.

Your cat will hit sexual maturity somewhere between 4-6 months. 6 months would definitely be a good time to do it. The sooner the better. And thank you for being a responsible pet owner and doing your part to help prevent more unwanted homeless shelter animals in the future.

As soon as possible! Most vets do it anywhere from 6 weeks on, but definetly get it done before 4 to 6 months. That is when they sexually mature, and will start to pick up bad habits like marking territory. That behavior is learned, so if he learns it, fixing him later won't stop it!!

I got my males fixed at 6 months old. That's what my vet recommended. I've heard they do it sooner but I personally trust my vet. If you notice him spraying, it's definately time. Good luck!
