Ask a family member who has a big house with a big back yard if you can have both ceremonies there.
I am planning my wedding and I am having it at my new home for no more than 50 family and friends. The good thing is that it is small, intimate, and you do not have to spend a lot of money and if anyone tries to push you to have a big wedding stay your ground and say no. but say yes to them contributing to your honeymoon or a down payment on your fist home.
Congrats and good luck and may you and your love have a long marriage. Communication and great sex is the key!! LOL

A "small" family wedding can be 10 people...it would be better to know what the word "small" means...however, if it just includes family, the safest and least expensive way to go is finger sandwiches, veggies and dip and a cheese ball with crackers. The drinks can be based on what most like, but a nice little punch would work great and maybe a pot of coffee if you have coffee drinkers in the group. Smallish-type weddings do not need to be extravagant in the receptions. Keep it simple, decorations and all. Simple is inexpensive, and elegant! Of course, don't forget the cake! The cake can also be simple...if a family member makes it, you can use a 9x13 for bottom layers and an 8x 8 square pan for top layers! You can decorate it with silk flowers and or candies, like buttermints and or pastel M&Ms! Wish I could help do your cake! : )

Many nice restuarants have small private or semi-private rooms that you can use for a reception. The great thing is that you can still decorate, enjoy a "catered" meal - but it is generally TONS cheaper then a wedding caterer - as low as $10-$15 per person at restuarants in my area were caters are $30-$50 per person for a wedding. Restuarants also usually let you use the room for free if they are providing the food - which saves you hundreds of dollars on renting a location, tables, chairs, linens, dishes, etc.

I am planning my own "small family only wedding" so I have a ton of ideas -- try a park or a family members house....picnic tables w/ plain white table clothes, old fashioned candy sticks in a mason jar for the centerpieces and for the reception dinner, you could always find that family friend that loves to grill and make it a backyard BBQ....good luck & congrats!

My husband and I got married last march at the Italian restaurant where we had our first date. We had it on a Monday night( odd but the time worked for our family). We had lots of help from the restaurant b/c Mondays are slow for them. We had everyone come at five for hor'sdourves and drinks and mingling. After an hour we moved into the next room and got married then returned to our tables. Everyone just ordered off the menu for dinner and we brought a cake in. It was a nice time and I had a chance to talk to all the guests(25) and have a wonderful wedding. Congratulations and have fun

picnic chic
in the park or someones backyard
red and creamy white color scheme
white and red rinuculus in pots on picnic tables
each couple gets a picnic basket filled w/ goodies (homemade cookies w/ the recipe card attached. glass jars of homemade lemonade tied w/ red ribbon. bbq chicken sandwiches. watermelon slices)
have candles in glass jars tied w/ rafia or red ribbon.
twinkle lights strung from the patio slats or trees. very romantic
sweet ginham table cloths in red and white.
cherry decorations.
ice cream sundae bar.
because the guest list is smaller, you can pay more attention to detail w/o getting overwhelmed. family stuff is warm and comfortable. keep that in mind when buying things.
hope this helps :D

You could fix a sit down dinner with maybe a stuffed chicken or chicken breasts, mashed potatoes and gravy and a vegetable, a tossed green salad.
Or you could make a buffet with several kinds of salads, vegetables, rigatoni, stuffed cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers, sliced breads, and some sweets.
