There are absolutely no survivors? I've never heard this and I've been flying since I was two and have been working in the airline industry for about a year and a half. Doesn't mean it's not true, but I think that if you haven't already seen cold hard facts, you should treat this as an overgeneralization and quit scaring yourself over it. Research, research, research. Don't rely on what you heard. The person who said it might be overgeneralizing as well. There is more credibility to something you read first hand versus hear second hand. There may be biases, though, like the FAA, I imagine, wouldn't want to have inordinately high crash rates. But, alternatively, they wouldn't want to be caught doctoring figures. It would ruin their credibility.

There are so so so many flights taking of all over the world and how many crashes do you actually hear of. Sure, there are some you don't hear of too, but flying is still safer than ground travel due to less traffic, more regulation, etc.

And security is pretty tough these days. More hassle, to some, yes, but fewer possibilities these days...

Someone mentioned classes... and there are therapists/counselors that deal with phobias, too.

BTW, if you're flying soon and haven't flown lately, check out the website below for restrictions. There are relatively new ones dealing with liquids, gels, and aerosols as carryons. Lip gloss, toothpaste, and water can't go through the security checkpoint. Make sure you're prepared.

Although I can't give advice on eliminating fear, I can suggest focusing on an alternative perspective. It takes a lot of organization and manpower to pull off the work done in the airline industry. Well, like anything else does. Try paying attention to your surroundings and just observing what's going on, who's doing what, etc.

Ever been on a roller coaster? Flying is similar. My favorite part is take off.

Good luck and I hope you can enjoy it!!

every plane with two or more engines is designed to fly even when one of those engines fail..

the point is that jets have things that can go wrong with them but the FAA requires a back up system for pretty much everything and in several cases, back up systems for the back up.. so the plane can continue to safely fly to an airport where repairs can be made.

one more thing.. you always here about the big aviation accidents around the world but do you hear about all the deadly car accidents from around the world or just your local area??

Think of it this way, the odds of you being in a plane crash are about the same as being dealt a royal flush twice in a row. sit down with a deck of cards and try it or have someone deal you a hand of cards and see. Also, there are many instances of survivors in plane crashes, so it isn't as dismal as all that.

You have far more chance of dying in a car crash than you do of dying in a plane crash. That's a fact.

If you really have a problem, some airlines/airports run special courses to help people but in terms of safety, you are very safe.

Yes, but they crash a LOT less often than cars. If you look at all the stats, it is safer than driving. Go to an airport and watch planes take off and land for a while. Watching how routine it is may help your fear.

It is very safe to fly.
Hitting the ground at 500 miles an hour is the problem.

lol, there's no need to be scared, its riskier to travel on ground than by air!! there is wayyyy many more car crashes than airplane crashes!!! its not like there's a plane crash everyday, they rarely happen compared to car accidents, there's HUNDREDS of car accidents all over the world EVERY single day!!

Rip of that perception from the mind. You are keeping yourself in trouble by having negative thoughts.

You have to feel lucky to get the chance to fly ......Most of the people on this earth just glance the plane with lots of enthusism and disability to fly.........

Avail the chance when it comes to you....

so don't worry ..just go ahead n enjoy your journey.

Almost everyone i know is scared to fly. It's not what we're made to do. You are more likely to die on the way to the airport. I'd be scared of that! Good luck!

'In the year 1947 in the United States of America more people were kicked to death by donkeys than were killed in civilian flying accidents'
