Hi there. I've tried all reflux meds other than prilosec. Nothing has worked for me thus far (not prevacid, not nexium, etc.)...I have a huge sac of acid stuck in my throat constantly and bad heartburn...I was wondering if anyone has tried other meds but has had better luck with prilosec (OTC or perscription)? If so, what drugs did you try before prilosec that didn't work for you as well?

I am thin and young and eat healthy, etc. (before anyone suggests that I should lose weight or modify my diet...)

My daughter is on Prilosec and it seems to be working great for her. Her doctor perscribed it because he said it was the best. You could also try eating smaller meals more frequently and eating alot slower if you havent already. Hope This Helps.

prilosec is the best of the over the counter medications (it usually takes about a week when you first start taking it for it to really kick in, and you need to take daily consistantly for it to be effective since it is a preventative, not a quick fix like tums or rolaids) i would try to get a prescription from your doctor because 1) if you have insurance the Rx version will be a lot cheaper for you 2) the Rx version is a little different and suppose to work better than the OTC version and 3) if youve had bad heartburn for a long time doctors like to keep an eye on it to make sure there isnt anything serious going on like Barrett's espophagus

Prilosec takes three or four days to activate and you can double the dose with no problem. take one in the morning and one in the evening. It should do the trick. Nexium takes a few days to activate as well and helps heal existing scar tissue in the stomach and esophagus. Give both of these some time to work and I think you will be ok. You say you are eating healthy. You would be suprised at some foods that have a lot of acid in them. Rice has a high acid content. most juices and soft drinks aswell. Cut back on your acid intake and settle on one of the meds and good luck. It worked real well for me. no acid anymore and no chest pains at all.

Believe it or not, Mylanta (Max. Strength) works for me. I have tried all of the prescription meds and out of everything, Mylanta still works the best for me. I have terrible reflux (diagnosed with it about 5 years ago), especially as soon as I lie down, and all I do is take a couple of tablespoons of Mylanta and my problem is gone immediately! I never have had to take a second dose either.

You will probably get the same results with prilosec.
