How would a red/rust color look? I think you should keep it an earthy color since it's on a wooded lot.

I would not actually paint it. For people who like natural wood (like me), it would be a turn off to see painted wood... especially on the outside of a home. I would stain it a red color or a light wood color, like a sand or yellowish (if you will). The trim you should probably keep dark, or paint the trim the same as the siding color of the house, to keep it uniform.
When painting homes, the rule of thumb is no more than three colors on the external of the house.... anymore would be too busy.
Also, ask your realtor what color you should paint it. S/he is going to have the best experience from working in the field with houses in your area. People who are going to be looking at your house will tend to have similar tastes, so s/he will have a good idea of what works and what doesn't.
Good luck.

Well, as long as you avoid neon colors like lime green, hot pink and orange, the most important factor is that your home appears neat and well maintained. A fresh coat of paint should be a great idea.
Have you considered a lighter shade of brown? A tan or a taupe?
Grey? You'll want to coordinate your choice with the color of your shingles, your window trim, any brick or stone on your home, and so on.

Think about vinyl siding a light tan color would be best and they make aluminum trim witch last forever. If you dont want to side it then pick a lighter brown and paint it.

I have real estate experience. I have seen people offer the house without painting, but offering to discount the price by the price of painting, the new buyers are then free to chose and paint what they want. It cost you the seller the same both ways. Just be fair and open and it will work.

Tan with white trim. Far second option would be with dark brown trim. Had that for many years.......finally grew to hate it. Now we have a lighter..more yellowish tan with sky blue trim. I love it!!
