i know that she is still a kitten, but she is so bad and she does not seem to be learning. she is always tearing stuff up. she bites me all the time and even makes me bleed on a daily basis. she is not mean i think that she just does not get it. i have a vet appt for shots in about a month. can i ask for a sedative or something to calm her or will the vet think that i am nuts? do they make anything for hyperactive kitties?

I don't think that kittens are bad. Think about it. They've only been on this planet a very short time. They don't have a concept of "good" and "bad." Usually, it's the kitten's or cat's owner who really needs to be trained first. You could try to talk to your vet or your local animal shelter to get tips on how to train your kitten. For example, when she bites you too hard when you are playing, you should stop playing with her. Just go limp and leave her. You shouldn't punish her or yell at her. She probably just thinks you are playing back. If you stop playing, then she will stop the behavior.

You need to learn techniques to train your kitten. You can start by going to this page of the Humane Society about using positive reinforcement to train your cat http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/cat_behavior_tip_sheets/positive_reinforcement_training_your_cat_with_treats_and_praise.html

Good luck.

I think that kittens are just like that. Puppies are too. Our cats were like that and if we didn't have a spray bottle, I think we would have beaten them to death (joking of course-but it is frustrating). One of our cats learned quickly and the other took A LONG time to learn anything. I think she thought we were just randomly tormenting her with the spray bottle. She is now 3 years old and is starting to get it. She still shreds paper and gets on the counter but she's a lot better than she used to be!

Try the spray bottle. The onles you get in the plant dept of a dept store work really well. You can spray fast and far. Good luck!

Is she the only cat? Cats are socialized not to bite and claw by their litter mates and/or other cats in the household. They learn not to bit and claw because it isn't fun to be bit and clawed.

Try the spray bottle -- and don't let her bite and claw you. Play with her by getting her to play with her toys.

Kittens have lots of energy and want to show off.

Just give her lots of love, and toys from www.fatcatinc.com. These toys are the best ever, and she'll do nothing but play with them all the time. She won't touch anything else.

my cat used to do that. he recently grew out of his kitten stage. now he's normal but bites now and then when he's hungry. kittens need a lo of attentions by playing. that will poop them out and sleep :)
