I can easily add third bedroom by using some "extra" space in adjacent frontroom. Wondering minimal size appropriate for child bedroom. Also, can put fridge "nook" in kitchen that would add extra space and enlarge kitchen. Can do most of the work myself. Need to decide if these changes are worth the potential increase in value of home? Appreciate advice.

If most of the houses in the area are 3 BR, then yes, it's a good idea. Kitchen remodle like that might be OK, but generally you get better return with a "whole" kitchen redo. The best money return in remodeling is adding the extra bathroom.

Do you live in neighborhood that is family oreinted? If so than any updates youdo to the kitchen would probably be worht it and acctually up the value, as long as it's done correctly. And if you're in a family oreintated nieghtborhood than the third bedroom idea is probably a good idea, as long as it's a decient size room and not a closet size. the smallest bedroom in my three bedroom ranch is nine by ten and I wish it was bigger but works okay for us.
