I would never tell anyone not to get a tattoo...it's your body...on that...any tattoo that is exposed a great deal to sunlight will tend to fade more than one that is not. Also, fading comes from the artist and how they do it. Sometimes they don't put the colour deep enough and you will get more fading that way. Also, red is a tricky colour and is hard for the skin to hold (it's a molecular thing).

it is true, i have a friend with a sailboat tattooed to the top of her foot in the 2 years she's had it she's already had to get it retouched. it's not for lack of care either, it's from lack of friction. obviously they don't fade away completely but they need to be retouched more than say a back tattoo. she also has lettering on the side of her foot and that's faded a lot more than the sailboat despite being more recent.

There are many factors that cause a tattoo to fade. The colors, how much sun you get and especially how you care for the tattoo after you have it done. The placement on your body has nothing to do with that.

Tattoos in general fade according to the type or quality of ink and the amount of sun exposer and of course damage done to the area.

No, it will fade just about the same as any other one and how you take of it. just remember to use a good ointment in the beginning, and since it's on your feet, becareful wearing socks/tight shoes, during the scabing stage. Other than that it will be like any other one, but a little more painful too!!! good luck!!

I have a red rose on my big toe. It has only been about 4 years and it looks like its about 10 years old. It has faded really bad, and I want to go get it re-touched.

Not really, but THEY HURT!! I am heavily tattooed, and it is my worst tattoo by far...I almost passed out. Mine has not faded too much, but everyone's body heals differently.

I've heard mixed results on this one. I hope it doesn't fade too quickly as I have an appointment tomorrow to go in and get my left foot done.

It's not that they "fade," per say...
But rather are rubbed continuously by shoes, socks, etc. and therefore end up looking dull, and distorted.
They may need touched up rather frequently.
