Should I back off for a while?

There is this guy I used to flirt with where I used to work. He asked for my number after I left the job, and called me after a couple weeks. I was definitely interested in seeing him so I called him back when I got his message. I've left him a few messages that casually mention getting together sometime and he doesn't get back to me very often. His messages are nice enough and don't give me the idea that he doesn't want me to contact him. But all I've gotten are promises of "I'll try to call you" that don't happen. I didn't think I was getting too forward or pushy with him, but I wonder if I made him think I was TOO interested. Is it a good idea to leave it alone for a while, no calls or messages, and see if he picks up interest again?

Yes I think you should take a step back and not do all the work.If he's interested then its his turn to pick up the ball.Maybe give him the same reactions he gives to you is also a good idea.Sometimes a little "pretend" noninterest from an interested party being you can spark a little something...
Good luck and if it doesn't go anywhere it won't be from a lack of trying on your part.Sometimes things have to happen in their own time.

Back off. Don't call him until after the holidays and only call once. If he's sincerely interested you've done all you can. Let him show some effort.

back off, if you seem too interested then he will control the relationship. you will have no power because he knows how much you like him. bottom line you 2 will not make it, good luck
