I asked my boyfriend to get me a ring for Christmas and he says no. First he says because every year Im going to ask for something more expensive and then he says because all I want to do is go around telling everybody that we got married! and then he says why is a ring so special? and why cant I just want something else. I told him it doesnt have to be expensive and that he could get one for under 100 dollars, but I dont know if he going to get it or not now.

No one has ever gave me something like that and I would honestly be really happy for him to get a ring for me but he doesnt understand. Im not asking him to propose to me. What do I do or what do I say to get him to understand how important it is to me?

Also for those who say he doesn't want to marry me and is afraid of commitment he is not like that. He tells me everyday that Im going to be the one he marries and that he wants to marry me so its not that!

You don't get to tell people what to get you, especially to tell a boyfriend to buy you jewelry, and then give him a hard time if he doesn't. Besides, it's not Christmas yet, it's still 10 days away... you've made your request, now back off, the more you bug him the less likely he is to buy it.

Why is it so important anyway, what does it mean to you?

Giving jewelry to your significant-other is a gesture of affection, but when you request it or try to force the issue, the gesture loses all meaning it might have had. I never got jewelry from a SO until recently I got a bracelet for my birthday and it's so special because it was so thoughtful and unexpected... now if I had asked for something and got it, it would just be a 'thing' that doesn't mean anything...

I used to think that rings and most other jewelry are a complete waste of money.

I was in my late 20's when I finally figured the purpose is to make the recipient feel a certain way while wearing it. It can make her feel more presentable or more special in public and it can stand as a constant reminder to her of the man she loves. Since I came to this new understanding I haven't had issues with making those purchases.

He might see it the way I used to. Consider having him read my response. It might give him a different understanding.

You should sit down with him and tell him how important it will be if he got that for you. Tell him that no one ever got you that and you want him to be the guy that does this for the first time to you. If you really want him to do it for you, then put the idea into his head. Don't just go blurting out that you want the ring. Even though you really want it. Make him think that he's the one that came up with that idea. That way he's happy and you're definitely happy.

The reason why he may not want to get the ring is because he may be scared, and also feel as if you are pushing him to do something that he may not be ready for. When the time is right he will get you the ring you so desire, and it will mean a lot to him because it came from his heart and he means it when he gives it to you. Meaning he is giving you the ring out of no pressure its coming from the heart. So my advise is to set back clam down and just wait.

So why DOES it have to be a ring? WHy are you so insistant?
Your bf is right..you want him to give you a ring so people will think you are getting married.
That isnt what he wants. You dont like that, get yourself a new boyfriend and stop trying to force this one into something he doesnt want.
It's unfair and dishonest

haha, sounds like the situation i have with my BF. he doesn't wanna get me one because of the whole commitment factor, (and he's a bum poor anyway) , and he's afraid i'll be more attached and expect too much for him. we've been together for nearly two years now, yeah of course i'm gonna expect some commitment! psh. guys. my advice to you is just to forget about it. i mean, really asking for a ring takes all the meaning out of it anyway. its much more special if he gets one for you from his heart. just give him his space and time, be a good girlfriend.. you'll get one when he's ready.

If you are asking for the ring so you can make it seem as if your spoken for nothing wrong with that he should feel proud and sweetie don't lower your standers make him spend the money on a nice ring because if you settle he'll see you'll settle for anything like just being his girlfriend forever. he shouldn't get it for you if you are asking... do you really want a pity ring and that's what it'd be... it's like the girl that tells her boyfriend you never buy me flowers... and nags that she never gets flowers and the next day she gets flowers... did she get those flowers because he WANTED to give them to her... no he gave them to her cause she nagged and begged... they aren't true flowers they are pity flowers... that is what this ring will be. if he doesn't WANT to give you a ring, he shouldn't give you a ring, regardless of price... wether it's a engagement ring or not. you should be happy that you have someone for christmas and that you'll get christmas gifts..
