My fiance and I probably moving to Nova Scotia next year and both of us want to go to school there. Academic programs aside, what are the pros and cons of these two schools and their locations and if one of us went to one and another the other, how difficult would it be to commute? Thanks

St. FX is in Antigonish, a small college town, which is about 2 1/2 hours from Halifax, where Dalhousie is located. So I don't think it would be too easy for you to commute. I guess you could live in between, say in Truro. But still, a lot of driving. There would be a huge difference between Antigonish and Halifax. Halifax is the major centre for the Maritime Provinces. It is a vibrant, active city, with two other universities (Mount St. Vincent and St. Mary's) in addition to Dal. Plus a school of Art and Design. It has a great music scene, a symphony, a theatre company, etc. Antigonish is very much a small town, with the university being kind of at the centre of it (although locals might not agree). It is a smaller school than Dal, so it would be a completely different experience. St. FXers are intensely loyal to their university - Dal, being an urban school does not command such feelings. Both are good schools. And Nova Scotia is a great place to live.
