I love bean burgers and my husband does too, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried some that aren't made with black beans or chickpeas. I makes those two kinds, but I would like something different.

I've checked my favorite recipe web sites (so don't waste your time saying "go to some website"), but I'm looking for other personal recipes that people might have.

This is my personal tried and tested recipe from my website:

Kidney Bean Burgers

Ingredients

1 can red kidney bean
1 large onion
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
salt
pepper
chilli flakes
breadcrumbs
olive oil

Finely chop the onion and garlic and fry in oil until soft.

Meanwhile drain and wash the kidney beans and mash them until they are soft.

Once the onions are cooked stir in the beans and mix well. Add the herbs and some salt, pepper and chilli flakes and taste the mixture. Add more seasoning if necessary.

Leave to cool for a few minutes and then press into 4 burger shapes. Dip these in breadcrumbs and fry in olive oil until browned.

Jalapeno Red Bean Burgers

1 yellow onion, chopped
1 roma tomato, chopped
1 jalapeno chili, seeded and chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp chili powder

1 16 oz can kidney beans, drained
4-6 Tbs barbecue sauce
1/3 to 2/3 cup bread crumbs (I like Panko brand, found in the Japanese section at the grocery)

Saute onion, tomato, pepper and garlic in a couple tsp. water, until well softened and beginning to carmelize.

In a bowl, mash beans. Add onion mixture, then barbecue sauce and chili powder to taste. Add bread crumbs, enough so that mixture can be formed into patties that hold together.

Grill or dry fry in nonstick pan.

These are my FAVORITE! I got the recipe from Bon Appetit magazine years ago... You can leave out the jalapeno if you don't like it...

I hope you enjoy them!
