i was told that if a mail man threw away mail that wasn't his, he goes to jail longer than if a person kills a boy by car crash.

how is this possible? this isn't fair!!!

since when should murder be dealt less seriously than mail being thrown away.
i just dont understand!!

Your basic problem is that if a person kills someone in a car crash it may not be a crime at all. If he's driving along and a boy darts in front of the car, he may die but the driver doesn't commit a crime.

Your gut may say that when someone dies it's more serious than when mail is lost and you are totally right. But the law punishes the person's actions and intent in driving a car or handling the mail rather than focusing on how horrible was the outcome.

In your last statement you use the word "murder" and there you have a definable crime. And in all cases murder is dealth with more harshly than any sort of mail-related crime. If you see the difference, you'll understand the answer.

Because the judicial system has some issues. I work for a PD as a dispatcher and we had a guy resist arrest and interfere with an officer and all he got was 60 days in jail (and got let out after 30 days). They are currently in the process of looking for him because he violated his parole already (after a day of being let out). Something is screwed up if you ask me.

my personal belief is those that are rich control the politics and then control the laws, and therefore the consequences. Most property crimes carry stiffer sentences than persons crimes. It is sad, but the rich care about themselves and their property, and persons crimes against someone else aren't worth campaigning for. Yes I realize that is a generalization and there are exceptions, but that is the trend i have noticed. It sucks and it should be changed where persons crimes carry higher sentences than property crimes. Property can be replaced, people get hurt never fully heal .
