As long as there are people on this earth , they will have different opinions , beliefs customs and ideas . some will be grown up and respect the differences and others will be childish and belittle and mock as you say the others

It's fun, they're different, it tends to make others conform and as such tends to give the most dominate personalities the largest chance to be perpetuated.
Kinda social evolution in a way, in about the same way that the slow fat guppy gets eaten first.
