Sometimes when we're about to kiss, or he's talking to me it smells gross and makes me very reluctant to kiss him. My biggest turnoff is bad breath, and I just think it's really gross. I wanna tell him, but I don't wanna hurt his feelings or make him embarassed! It happens quite often so I can't always say, "hey, want some gum?" Today he thought something was wrong when I acted kinda weird about kissing him, and it was just a little peck on the lips, but I was still grossed out! What should I do?!?

ive forgotten to mention that me and my boyfriend talk about anything and everything. im extremely openminded with him, as well as everyone so communication is never a problem. any other person i could mention something to them about this, but with my man its awkward for me because we kiss and i know hell feel self conscious! that why im having such a hard time telling him.

Bad breath has a lot of causes. Your boyfriend could have a digestive, sinus or dental problem, all of which can manifest in halitosis. I think you just have to be frank and tell him, since most people are blissfully unaware that they have bad breath. You can do it in such a way that he won't be hurt or embarrassed. Just say, "I've noticed lately that your breath is rather unpleasant. I know you can't help it, but I'd suggest seeing your doctor or dentist to make sure there isn't a problem. I care about you, and that's why I'm mentioning this. I'd want you to do the same for me." Something along those lines. There really is no tactful way, but whatever you do, don't just blurt out, "Your breath stinks"! Tell him in a spirit of genuine caring, and he shouldn't be offended.

Ask him what he had for lunch or dinner and let him know that his breath smells funny.
Ask him if he has had a sinus infection lately or soar throat lately. If he asks why, tell him that his breath is a bit foul and you are concerned. OR even bring up the fact that brushing the tongue is very healthy and that you saw this clip on CNN about the importance of oral hygiene and how people have been known to just pass out from having bad breath enter there space...
Seriously, honesty is the best way to keep the lines of communication open. Good Luck.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry, girl. You know, you are really in a tough situation. His bad breath could be a caused by a number of things besides hygiene though. Maybe he has certain health problems, like acid reflux disease, that cause his breath to smell foul. You could ask him to eat fruity candy to offset to smell before he kisses you if you think offering a mint would be too harsh. I know you don't want to hurt his feelings by telling him he has bad breath. Maybe you could do it indirectly. When your alone together, make up a story about how one of your ex-boyfriends had the worst breath ever and you couldn't stand kissing him, but make it funny. He might take the hint and be more aware of what his own breath smells like. Good Luck.

Offering gum is one of the best methods but bad breath does not just exist in your mouth, it comes from inner system when people usually eat a lot of junk food, don’t eat at all & don’t drink water. My brother has the same problem so I got him started on 8 fruits and a salad per day, now when he goes in the toilet it smells of apples and oranges when he comes out ( lol ). If you going to be with him long term then you need to be honest with him, too bad he finds it embarrassing but it’s a put off for you & I am sure he would not want you to walk away because of his breath. But say it in a nice way so he doesn’t mind. Just help him out. Hope you find a solution

Option 1. Let him read your post here.

Option 2. Tell him that it is important to you for him to have clean, fresh breath. Nothing turns you off faster than when he leans over to kiss you and all you smell is bad breath.

Option 3. When you are at his house, bring a tooth brush. Before you kiss him tell him you want to brush your teeth because you had something for lunch, like garlic, onions, or whatever. If you are constantly brushing your teeth before you kiss him, he'll want to follow you to the bathroom.

Option 4. Buy him some SCOPE (mouthwash). Tell him to keep it close, just in case you want to get fresh with him, you want to get "FRESH" not "GROSSED"!

Hopefully, he'll laugh about it, but realize it's important to you.

did this problem just start? because seems to me you would have known he had bad breath when he was still just your friend. I would say, with a scrunched up nose, "baby, your breath!"... at this juncture, his embarassment is nothing... you have to be honest with him. Otherwise he's going to think it's something else for you not wanting to kiss him. You are supposed to be the closests person to him, if you can't tell him, who can?

there isn't any thanks to be diffused about this. you purely must be uncomplicated, yet variety. "Honey, you comprehend i love you, yet I somewhat ought to inform you something that ought to sound rude - please comprehend i'm in problem-free words telling you so as that we can restore it and bypass ahead with the relationship. you received't note it, yet you've somewhat undesirable breath. it would somewhat help in case you tried brushing two times an afternoon, flossing each and every nighttime, utilizing a tongue scraper (no longer that bizarre, a good type of persons do, and it receives on the source of undesirable breath), and chewing gum or mints after each and every meal. it would make a large distinction to me in case you tried this, and would let me appreciate your kisses extra. i somewhat do not favor to lose you or get in a wrestle over this manner of trivial element, even with the undeniable fact that it would somewhat make a large distinction."

If you care for him, you'll have to be honest... one day. But one possibility is for you to ask some dental offices to send pamphlets or brochures about bad breath treatments to him, without your name or address being involved. Another option is for you to get a friend or relative of his to tell him about his problem. And of course, there's always email.
