I don't know that area, but check out the Appalachian Trail Conference website to see if/what local club/org takes care of that area.
In the northern Virginia, Maryland area it's the PATC (Potomac Appalachian Trail Conference). They have a lot of sections on or near the trail that have cabins for rent, from very rustic to real houses. Some are road-accessible, others range from short walk to a long haul from the nearest trailhead.
Maybe there's something like that in the Smokies.
