Treatment
Conventional medicine is very successful in treating strep throat. However, several alternative therapies may help to resolve the disease or relieve symptoms. Herbal remedies such as echinacea ( Echinacea spp.), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), and garlic (Allium sativum) are believed to strengthen the immune system and combat bacterial infections.

Goldenseal
One of its active agents is a chemical called berberine. This alkaloid is believed to have antibiotic effects against streptococci bacteria. It may also help to prevent Streptococcus pyogenes from attaching itself to the throat lining, according to a study published in the journal Antimicrobial Agents And Chemotherapy in 1988. Goldenseal is also believed to increase the activity of disease-fighting white blood cells.

Echinacea
This popular herb fights viral and bacterial infections by boosting the immune system, according to herbalists. Echinacea may also combat strep throat by interfering with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that helps the offending bacterium to grow and spread.

Garlic
The focus of hundreds of medical studies and papers, garlic is believed to be an antibiotic as well as an antiviral. As an added benefit, garlic may also prevent atherosclerosis, lower cholesterol levels, and act as an antioxidant.

Zinc and ginger (Zingiber officinale) are sometimes recommended to help treat symptoms of sore throat. In addition to strengthening the immune system, zinc may reduce throat inflammation and pain regardless of the cause. Ginger may have analgesic properties and ease throat irritation.

In the practice of homeopathy, belladonna, lachesis, and mercurius are usually the remedies of choice for strep throat and other causes of throat irritation. Which remedy to use depends on the exact nature of the symptoms. These homeopathic treatments are not recommended for more than a few days or symptoms may actually return.

Personally, I would get it checked out by a DR, b/c of the risk of serious sequela such as Rheumatic Fever, Rheumatic Heart Disease, and Post strep glomerulonephritis. You definitely don't want to worry about these! Get antibiotics!!!

I just had Strep Throat a few weeks ago and I asked my family the same question, because I didn't want to spend the $ on a doctor. My Family is big on all that Alternative health stuff and they didn't have anything for me.

I had to go the doctor in a nearby town ($30) and he gave me a physcription ($10) for some new pills. I only needed 5 pills to take in 4 days. It cleared up in 2 days. I can't remember the name of the physcription, but I do know that it is really new stuff. (By the way those dollar amounts are without using my health insurance, if cost is a concern for using Alternative Medicine)

With strep throat there is no home remedy really for it. It has to be cured with Penacillin. It does not go away on it's own. You are contagious untill you have been on the meds. for at least 48 hours.

Strep is caused by bacteria. There's no effective home antibiotic remedy for this that I know of. If you truly have a strep infection, you will need prescribed medication.

Untreated Strep throat is not only damn unpleasant, but could have serious further consequences. Moreover, walking around with an infectious disease puts others at risk. Go to a doctor and get antibiotics. Not to mention, how do you think you will perform compared to others while sick?

If it is truly strep throat, you need to be placed on antibiotics. Roughly 95% of strep throat cases will clear on their own, but the remaining 5% can lead to serious complications, such as menigitis. Not only can it potentially become fatal if left untreated, but you may also spread it to others. Please, go see your physician.

Put 3 cloves of chopped up garlic in soup (assuming they can drink it without vomiting), drink this every day. Don't boil the garlic too long (about 4 minutes). Make sure it's chopped up finely, and eat it and the soup. You can use chicken broth or whatever. The garlic will hel get rid of the infection. I had the beginnings of a BAD ear infection, I did this for 3 days till the symptoms went away. It works! Good luck!
