Why should it matter if she chooses to wear the veil while serving customers? As long as, she is courteous to the customers, the veil, shouldn't matter. Having an understanding of the Qur'an, I fully understand why women choose to wear the veil, as a sign of fidelity, and I praise them, not condemn them.

As a woman, I always smile and say hello when I see them. Okay, I can't tell if they are smiling back, but when they smile underneath the veil,it does reflect in their eyes. Actually, I would welcome a veiled woman serving me a Judeau-Christian at a supermarket, as we are part of the Abrahamic Faiths and she is my Islamic sister.

I am more nervous about the gum-smacking, multiple cross-wearing holy roller that usually works the #19 lane at the local Meijer's. She's always making snide remarks and giving me dirty looks while staring directly at my Mjolnir. I pretend not to notice and I avoid her line, if possible. There's always the possibility she is a terrorist rather than just an intolerant @$$, however, so she makes me somewhat nervous. News accounts say Eric Rudolph acted much the same way, and he is a very dangerous man.

Anyone who acts like that isn't a "real" christian (or whatever), anyway. She just thinks she is, just as the christian terrorist Eric Rudolph swears he is a 'real' christian.

No, you would not affect me as long as you were polite and did your job well. Same standards that I have for everyone else. I am more affected by incompetence and rude behavior than by what you are wearing. As a matter of fact, what you are, or are not, wearing doesn't affect me at all! If I were to let it affect me, what a sad, weak person I'd be. Your clothing cannot hurt me or anyone else. Wish everyone were smart enough to realize that.

My clothing tends to have chains and loops and spikes. I'd be more scared of me than some woman in a veil. Some of my clothing can quite literally be used as a weapon, whereas a veil cannot.

It wouldn't affect me because it is a choice to be affected. It is an interesting concept when you consider that the eyes are the window of the soul, then all you are seeing is someone's eyes when they are wearing the veil.
I must say that I was a bit shocked to see a woman in a full veil at House of Fraser with who looked like her father looking at strapless evening gowns. It made my mind wander for a few minutes.
I can't see how the garment would affect the person's ability to do the job but it must be expected that other people are going to behave like fools at times.
I think as the person who wears the veil, you would want to ask yourself if other's behaviour will affect you. If you have chosen to wear it, then you are the one who is going to be on the receiving end of any vulgar or silly comments by others and we can't control how others see us, can we?
Good look.

In this whole issue we have a clash of cultures. In the Islamic world women cover there faces as a sign of modesty. In the west the only people who cover their faces are people who have something to hide like their identity. We have all grown up watching cowboy films and cops and robbers where the bad guys where a veil. Westerners are very suspicious of the veil especially now with the threat of terror from the nations where mostly Muslims live.
I guess we all have a lot of loving left to do. My answer is I hope not.

It is a little bit intimidating, I honestly don't think many people would feel comfortable going to be served by her. Especially the black ones they do look quite frightening, you can only see the womans eyes. It isn't a common thing at least where I live it isn't. Maybe in a few years time and more muslims live in this country it would be ok, but it wouldn't be ok at the moment. I honestly think children would be afraid of them. I also think it would prohibit you if you worked at a checkout. I sit in quite confined space, they look quite big and bulky and would get in the way. I have never met a woman wearing one, does it muffle your voice? That would cause a problem when you serve the public.
I stand corrected. x But I don't think it is a question of being ignorant or not tolerating other faiths, I just honestly feel it would be intimidating and frightening to a child who has never seen one before. In years to come it would be ok when there is more integration in the country but definitly not now.

Well if your working in a Customer FACING position where you have to communicate with someone FACE TO FACE i think it would effect your job, personally i think that wearing a veil is a decision that each muslim woman should make for themselves and they will just have to expect to be social restricted as they are cutting off a mass part of the way they communicate with people. ALTHOUGH i personally dont agree with wearing one, if your god didnt want you to been seen my other men then youd be born in one, and if the reason you wear one is to stop other men looking at you then shouldnt these men wear blind folds? How about if a nudist wanted a job in a supermarket?

I work a lot with Deaf people and I know how crucial facial expression can be. In sign language it can change the whole meaning of a phrase. So I know most Deaf and hard of hearing people wouldn't go to her till because they wouldn't be able to lipread for a start.

Personally, it's an occupational hazard that I rely so much on facial expression and body language that I would probrably use a different till as well.

Yeah it bloody well would..Don't get me wrong if you believe in something then you have full right to preach at home or in a mosque or whatever..its like this do you think Nudist people would be allowed to work behind a counter or a Bnp Member in All his outfit or even Transvestites..I think not its the same for all...And anyway would you like to serve a customer with a hoodie with just eyes showing etc...Please try and understand peoples views on this...Its a sign of ignorance&rudeness To many but Some wont be bothered.....

Women wearing a veil would not bother me at all. It,s only the political problems that have made this problem. People in general do not mind the veil, it,s just that they are nervous about it these days.

Look its not normal in our culture - the people who wear masks tend to be bandits, outlaws and criminals - it makes us think what have you got to hide?

I know some people say they're just showing respect to their religion but I think its a tribal thing going back further than Islam.

You must realise Islam is one of the most sexist cultures there is (one of? hm) are you in anyway, less intelligent, less civilised and less capable in a way that makes you feel happy to be a 2nd class citizen?

This is a serious question back at you, so give it some thought.

Yes it would effect me. I show my face and consider it polite that people show me the same respect and not hide behind a mask.
