It you look at what Jesus said about it , he never said adultry but fornication , there is a difference. fornication would have been equal to on your wedding night you discovered that your wife was not a virgin ,this was grounds for a divorce

Marriage is a contract between two people. Not just in legal terms, but in spiritual ones as well. I believe the Bible makes that pretty clear. So if one person breaks the contract by behaving in such a way that demeans the other one, then there is reason for divorce. You don't have to sleep around to make your spouse feel unloved. Lying, being aggressive, not being emotionally supportive, being verbally and/or physically abusive, all break vows. I'm not positive as to what the church's stance is (by the way, which church? I only know Protestant) but I believe there are more reasons for divorce than just adultery.

You are mistaken The Bible says:
Matthew 5:32 "But I say unto you that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery."
Isnt adultery fornitcation?
And also these reasons.
1 Corinthians 7:12-13, 15 it says, 12: But to the rest speak I not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. 13: and the woman which hath a husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 15: But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases; but God hath called us to peace.

Then what do you do with this verse?
Matthew 5:32
But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.
Matthew 19:9
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
It is ok to divorce if one commits adultery...but you should not re marry. It doesnt say you SHOULD divorce, but it says it is ok if you do- meaning, that is not a sin in God's eyes. Of course the adultery is a sin in God's eyes...

Not all churches' teachings are the same re divorce. I can think of two good reasons for annulments, however. One would be unknowingly marrying someone already married and the other would be unknowingly marrying someone who is gay & you aren't.

Ezra = a foreign woman
Torah - indecency
Jesus - unfaithfulness.
The Bible says you can divorce for these reasons - "should" is a different issue.

I do not know why someone would let a church tell them what they could do about a divorce. Are they slaves to the church?

A person has the right to divorce their partner if they are abusive(physical or mentally) to you or if they are unfaithful. If they reject The Truth you may divorce them.
