Type it in the search engine to find the statistics. My nephew has it, but there was no trace of it in any of our families before that

Approximately 1 in 20 first-degree relatives of a Celiac also develop Celiac Disease. You should get tested right away (you do not need to have symptoms to have active Celiac Disease) and then you should be tested every 2-5 years afterwards. There are serious risks to untreated Celiac Disease including colon cancer and osteoperosis. For more information on CD, visit www.celiac.com and www.glutenfreeforum.com.

Celiac disease can show up in families, particularly if it is evident in a close relative. I don't know what your chances of developing it are but you would most likely benefit from genetic counseling. You can get better answers from a counselor. Speak to your health care provider about a referral. It could give you peace of mind and a lot of useful information.

I am celiac - I found out a year ago - my little sister also found out she was a year ago. Everyone in my family is getting test. I am sure it will be found among them somewhere. I hope that it skips you. It is not the end of the world - just a change of life.

Type celiac disease into Google and you'll find lots of information, or ask your mom's doctor.
