Well being a frequent abuser of the excessive punctuation, let me explain. When I use more than one exclamation point its because I'm really excited about something or passionate about something or really shocked. So for example here is the same sentence three times. I went to the fall out boy concert today. (this would mean meh it was okay whatever). I went to the fall out boy concert today! (it was pretty wicked although not the best thing ever). and finally I went to the fall out boy concert today!!!!!!(which means OMG BEST CONCERT EVER... I'm so excited cant you tell!!!!! pay attention to me!! ask me questions!!! LOOK!!!) haha. As for the excessive question marks that just means I'm really really confused answer me now before my head explodes from all this confusion. The one you have to worry about though is !?!?!?! this means WHAT THE HELL basically... so if I were to ask why the heck are you asking a question like this!?!?! it would imply my god this is dumb question, who could be so stupid as to ask such a dumb question. lol thats just an example though... I thought your question was a good one... I hope I was able to answer it. Take care.

The extra exclamation points I get, despite the fact that they're annoying--the person is shouting, like using capital letters.

The extra question marks are what I really can't understand. Is adding more question marks supposed to mean it's *really* a question, not just *sort of* a question? Very bizarre.

It is a way of adding emphasis! Perhaps since type can't be made bold in this form people try and compensate with excessive punctuation.

Just a thought.

I see your point!!!! People add it to the end of otherwise pedestrian sentences, as it were some sort of magical sentence enhancer!!!!!!!!! Or it makes their question seem smarter!!!!!!!!!! What's that all about??????????
