I'm terrified of my son having to have silver teeth due to the decay. Are there any alternative methods available such as white fillings?

If you are so worried about his teeth, then why didn't you teach him to take care of them? Yes, they have white fillings.

Your question is a little hard to understand. Either you are asking 1) do the teeth fall out on purpose? 2) did the dentist put silver on his teeth on purpose 3) did he put them on baby teeth just for money, as they will fall out anyway. I will answer all of the ways your question could be taken. 1) yes baby teeth fall out if there is an adult tooth to replace it 2) The dentist probably choose the metal over a plastic white filling because metal last longer and stands up better to the grinding and pressure we put on our back teeth. Especially for children, who aren't always the kindest to their teeth. 3) Yes the dentist will cap or fill baby teeth if they have decay on them. Even if the tooth is expected to fall out within a few months. When there is decay on a baby tooth, untreated decay can damage the adult tooth that is behind the baby tooth, if the decay is deep enough. Also, baby teeth do have nerves and children can feel pain in their teeth. These are the biggest concerns with decay on baby teeth: further damage and pain. I hope I answered your question correctly.

Another option you could look into would be to completly drill out the decayed teeth and there is something that you can put in as a replacement it looks just like a regualr tooth no one would know the difference. Ask your dentist for more information.

Depends on the severity of the decay. I know that you should take him to a ortho-pediatric dentist. I know that they did for my little cousin, he was only 5 years old at the time.

Yes they have white caps you can get now. They are called porcelain veneers.

If you just need fillings, they have white fillings now also.
