My puppy has been treated 4 times since 11/24 for worms. She also has something in her bed every morning that looks like rice or maybe small seeds. This is NOT in her stool, it is just in her bed. She doesn't go in her bed. The vet today told me something about tapeworms, but I don't have a clue how this "rice" looking thing that most definately isn't moving and isn't in her stool can keep showing up in her bed. What is it and what can i do to get rid of it . I am freaking out. They gave her DRontal Plus today, later she threw up 3 times.

Drontal will get rid of the tape. Thats what the rice looking thing was.

Take a sample of what is in her bed to the vet. Use a piece of clear tape attach that way. The vet will be able to look under the microscope to see what kind of parasite it is.

If she was highly infested, it may take a while to get rid of all the worms. If she has fleas (which is where tapeworms come from) then she could possibly be reinfesting herself. You need to treat the flea problem as well as the tapeworm problem.

The rice looking thing is part of the tapeworm coming out or coming out and dying on the bed.

the rice like things you see are tapeworm eggs. They get tapeworms from fleas. Drontal plus given should take care of the problem. Then ask your vet for a flea preventative.

When I got my puppy he was only 8 weeks old and he had both kinds of worms, don't worry, the people before I got him were not taking care of him. If you know were a feed store is, that is your best bet without spending all kinds of money. You can something there to help them it is some kind of liquid medical drops. Also the shots they get at the vet are also there. They are so much cheaper and they will show you the proper way to do things. Good Luck and HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Most pet store wormers do not treat tapeworms. Droncit does--costs more but worth it.

Those "rice" thingie are shed tapeworm segments. Those segments dry out then infect another animal that injests them.

If the wormer your vet gave your dog made it vomit, call the vet back. There are injectable wormers that can be used as well.

Tapeworms look like a piece of rice on the stool but not in it, or sometimes seen sticking like little white eggs to the dogs anus.

Maybe, since she has been treated, they are dead tapeworms.

Drontal can cause vomiting. I would go to Petco, Walmart, Target or Tractor Supply Company and get SAFEGUARD dewormer. It is a powder that you give to your dog for three days in their food (I usually mush it up in canned dog food). It is based on the weight, and if your dog is in between sizes, go to the next size up. It will get rid of the tapeworms, and almost any other parasite. Plus, it isn't very expensive.

You'll probably want to, if you haven't already, take a bagged sample of the "rice" things to your vet. That way, he or she can tell you for sure what it is. It could possibly be food that she dragged in, if you don't see the rice stuff coming off of her skin or out of her excrement. I'm not an expert, but I believe that worms usually are softer, and don't look like seeds.
