To some people it means something to them. Some get them to mark a new beginning of their life if they changed from something horrible, some get them for their kids so they're always with them, some get them in memory of a loved one, some of them to get some closure. Ever watch Miami Ink? Maybe you should check out that show sometime, people come in to get tattoos, and its not because everyone else has one, they have a story behind their tattoo, a story that means something to them. And I heard once you get one tattoo, you want another and it becomes addicting. I want one on my wrist I dont know what of though. And I want another one for my old cat and new cat. A picture of a cat face, I dont know if I want their names in it though. I want it because I've had this one cat most of my life and she just seemed to be there for me, like I'd cry and she'd come right over to me and purr and rub against me, sometimes it just felt like she was the only one who understood me. ( I got a keychain once that said "The person who understands me is my cat" ) Then we had to put her to sleep and it still makes me cry even though it was years ago. My new one, he taught me what its like to take care of a living thing and take resposibility. Hes my baby. I've had pets before but if I didnt take care of them my parents would so of course that didnt teach me nothing and it was easy. This one I have to make sure hes fed, I have to wash him, pay for his vet visits, I have to clean out his litter box... everything. Actually, they say that in some odd years it would be weird for you to NOT get a tattoo, its just gonna become this big thing. Times change.

I've never understood it either... it's just the thing to do, now. Some find it sexy, some find it adventurous, I just think of it as another unnecessary thing to do to your body. I have nothing personal against it and if you want a tattoo to be sexy or to show that you're part of a team, then all the power to you. However, I have no problem with ladies and gents that choose to keep their skin ink-free and I'm sure any person can be equally beautiful with or without a tattoo.

I ran into a guy that was al tatted up and the conversation got around as to why. He said that he wanted to stand out from the rest and the tattoos gave him individuality. I don t have any tattoos and I feel quite like an individual. I mentioned to him that with the tattoo, trend continuing, in a short time I d be the one being more individualistic and he d be one of the tattoo pack that no one would look at. He pondered about that and replied "you re probably right"

That's just your personality, there's nothing wrong with you not understanding why people get tats. There's a lot of people like that. Personally i LOVE tats and am excited about getting one or two, For me body modifications make me feel beautiful, there are probably as many reason for getting a tattoo as there are people with tattoos. Some people do it to remember a deceased loved one or an important event, some people do it cuz it looks cute.

The norm has def changed. I am a workin in corporate level job for a big company. I have three. They are all in places that are covered (arm band) back (shoulder blade) (Lef Calf) One of mine is tribal band on the arm the other two are Lions which signify my birth sign (Leo). Its something that you have to feel passionate about. I will say they are addicting but I plan to get no more. Most girls and guys find mine very sexy can be hot if they are done by a artist that does good work and put in a classy place on the body. I dont paticulary care for them on a girl unless its on the nap of the back near the waist. I think those are hot. I think you should only get a tatto that has a personal meaning to the person getting it.

Well, you pretty much answered yourself.
It's a personal choice.
Your friends like them, you don't. That is why it is your own decision whether or not to get a tattoo.
I have 15 tattoos, and my best friends don't have any.
In fact, my fiance doesn't have a single one, either.
So, if your friends want tattoos, that's their choice. Don't be so quick to judge. :)

based on what you are saying maybe tattoos aren't for you. which is perfectly alright because that is your opinion. dont put your friends down because they believe in tattoos and they love them. If done correctly tattoos are a beautiful and unique piece of artwork. some people get them to express themselves, some just becuase they like them. Some get them as a new beginning....some get them to show that they have overcome a painful time in their lifetime. some get them because they are "like SO hot" depends on the person.

I think people get them as a form of self-expression. Everybody wants to be different and they don't want to be mistaken for somebody else. People get tattoos for the same reason people have piercings, color their hair green or blue, or wear two different color shoes. Everybody tries to be an individual.

I like my little tattoo. What do you care what other people do to their bodies? Others getting tattoos doesn't hurt you in ANY way.

Maybe not so much now that they're so popular.
But it used say that the girl was a wild child and free spirit.
It made a statement that she was rebellious and not afraid of a little pain.
