Instinct. They go in search of places with better food sources. That is why many geese have learned to stay late in places (such as Wisconsin) or all year long if they are have a year round food source.

As far as your statement that websites will not give you the answers you need:

http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/birds/canada-goose.htm

I can't possibly imagine what other info you might need. It even answers the many other questions you have asked about Canadian Geese in the last few minutes.

I live in Northern Alberta Canada. The geese leave here when the frost starts. They have to leave here, it gets as cold as -40 degrees fairenhiet(-36f last week!!!) The lakes and ponds are now frozen and we have 3 feet of snow, the geese wouldn't be able to eat anything, since it is all covered in snow and ice. Plus they would freeze to death. This spring was really dry and warm so the geese population is triving this year. Toones of goselings survived this year. We had 4 breeding pairs with over 50 offsping in the small creek across the street.

When is snows up north the geese migrate south to find food that they can easily get at and un frozen water to live at.
They go south and stat for a time in different places until the water freezes over and the food is covered up then the move on farther south.

Because they can fly. And to prove evolution theory wrong.
