I agree with many of the answers to your question. All martial arts can be very fun...depending on the instructor...and most have some sparring once you reach a certain rank. In the beginning phases most styles emphasize blocking/punching, kicking, stances and also physical and mental conditioning.
Be careful when choosing a school as there are arts out there that let the weapons train the hands! These are also very good, but will not fit your comfort level.
I would recommend visiting a school and watching a beginning and mid-rank class. Pay attention to the techniques that are taught. If you see beginner students twirling nunchaku or waiving a bo staff around...that is probably not going to be the school for you. I would also recommend you talk to the sensei or head instructor and ask about weapons. Many schools will teach weapons but at the request of the student and do not require weapons until a student reaches the upper ranks.
You may want to explore Tang Soo Do or Kempo/Kenpo. Judo or Jiu Jitsu would also be great. The best barometer is the students in each school...are they having fun...are they busy...do the exercises and movements they are doing fit your needs...are the instructors there and attentive to the class. These are all questions to keep in mind as you visit schools.
Have fun and good luck!

Most styles have underlying uses of weapons at some point. Weapons are simply an extension of one's body and for me often spice up karate(empty hand) techniques. As in all styles you start off with basics and usually without weapons so you might be surprised and actually like it.
The good news is that if you are simply wanting to learn some basics then most styles(other than Modern Arnis or other weapons pro styles) go for a long time before the weapon is incorporated.
If you are more into the sparring with kicks and punches consider kickboxing etc but if you are more into contact you might like Judo, Wrestling, JuJitsu, etc... My favorite is Goju-Shorin Karate Do. You go several ranks before you even touch the 1st weapon which is the Sai in this style.
Good luck! With the right instructor and a friendly environment any style can be GREAT!

Martial arts ans game are two absolutely extraordinary thought. They in no way are identical. The two appear extraordinary and are practiced extraordinary. Unfortunately many at present have no idea the change. Many are being taught a game and in no way gain knowledge of the artwork. Therefore persons with out a abilities of the humanities see a vulnerable variant of a real artwork and gauge all people in line with their abilities of martial arts and so they don' have any abilities. I love how pugspaw, sensei scandal, stillcrazy placed it. I don't have anything towards those who play video games. That is first-class for them. However, I am inquisitive about having the abilities and potential of self protection. I'm inquisitive about budo. I don't even wish to make use of the time period martial with game. The two does no longer cross in combination. One is a recreation. The different is conflict. There is not anything greater than while attacked understanding learn how to function your self in a system that the attacker can not do something, however is uncovered to the whole thing a good way to quit the hazard instantly. When I used to be a little one I performed tag. I do not play that infantile recreation anymore. We used to exchange punches in grade tuition. I do not exchange punches anymore. If I hit you I imply to quit you. I don't appear for a referee to mention you tapped out. I'll realize you're out while the lighting cross out and also you cross limp. I'll realize that you simply give up while I pay attention or suppose the joint snap. I'll realize you can not use that limb correct now to try to damage me or my household.
