Why not? Obviously secular science tells us something different than what some religions tell us about the age of mankind. But I assume that, in the future, we will get more information that will help us to see the full picture. In the meantime, I'll just wait and work on living the true principles I know.

There are many different theories on how long the creation of the world took. As no one can ever know will know for sure in this life, some interpret each "Day" that it took to make the earth as a period of time (if you look at the literal translation of the words it was written in) which could be thousands, millions of years.

Also on the other side of the coin there have been magnetic field studies done to show that with the current magnetic field of the world, and rate of decay, the age of the world falls into a more biblical number. If you believe that God is all powerful and could create everything, then it shouldn't be a stretch to believe he could create things that seem older than they are ( ie carbon dating).

"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function."
(F. Scott Fitzgerald)

I have always liked that quote. Most people live with severe disconnects in their thinking. In on context they can believe and act in ways that are totaly at odds with what they think and do in other contexts. If you force them to try to meld these disconnected parts of their reality you can trigger sanity or insanity. I have no idea of how to calculate which result would occur.

Edit:
Genesis tell that God created man at the second or third day of creation and summing the geneology gives that as about 4004 years B.C. No Genesis does not say the earth is billions of years old and the authors of that book would not have been able to name a number for millions, forget about them understanding billions.

Amazingly as it might seem, there are people who believe opposing theories.

Some Christians believe in Evolution, which is totally illogical.

So, yes, Petroleum Engineers will easily explain to you the process of oil generation, still tell you they believe in the Flood and crap like that.

The book of Genesis doesn't say "6000 years ago the earth was created."

It doesn't matter. That point is, God made creation. Debating whether God did or it was random only draws the focus away from God... which is why I hate doing it.We are not here by accident, we are not here merely to please ourselves. Much like an artist, God's signiture is on every atom and every galaxy, saying "I did it" and "I like it"

The book of genesis!!!

What bible have you been reading? Cause the bible NEVER said the world was 6,000 years old. The bible states that "Man" has been in existance for 6,000 years... don't get it twisted.
