when re-installing the operating system you need to also install your device drivers, this includes display, modem, lan,tv card and of course audio drivers
if windows recognizes the sudio device you are using it will automatically install the driver during installation but in your case this hasent happened
so you need to find out the name of your sound card and locate the driver by going to the manufacturers website, you will find the driver under support normally
with regards to the outlook express and itunes again, after a windows re-install some settins and active x controls like flash player and java need to be downloaded and installed again,so this should be done
what i have done is made a cd folder with all the nessecary drivers and programs cd,s so in the case of a windows re-installation i have all the software to hand and its much quicker than having to go round looking for the drivers
for your sound,go to control panel and sounds and then click the audio tab and drop down the boxfor playback, you may find the audio device in there ,if you do apply the setting and then press ok
this is the same for all devices,if they havent been enabled during installation of windows, you need to go through every device and either re-install drivers or download and install new ones
its a long job but it needs to be done and if its done correctly your operating system should be alright for a few years, just make sure you install a good anti-virus and a few good anti-spyware programs,oh and of course a good firewall
good luck
