I am making mollasses cookies and the recipe calls for unsalted butter. Can I use regular butter or is it better to stick to the recipe?

Sure you can, they unsalted butter is better because what ever you are baking will taste salty if you use regular butter but I have never tasted any difference so you can use what ever you like.

Generally recipes call for unsalted butter because there is no standard for how much salt is in salted butter- one brand may be saltier than another brand- so it makes it harder to gauge how much salt you're putting into your recipe. That said, there will be no adverse chemical reaction in the cookies... I would just leave out the salt in the recipe, and figure the salt in the butter is enough. Salt is used in cookie and cake recipes to enhance the other flavors, so nothing detrimental will happen if you didn't put in exactly the amount called for in the recipe.
They should still turn out great.

Yes, but I wouldn't leave out the other salt totally. I'd reduce the amount of salt the recipe calls for by 1/2.

Yes just make sure not to add that 1/4 teaspoon of salt or other small amount and make the cookie the same way

It could do 2 things - first it will definitely taste saltier. Secondly, cooking is a chemical reaction and adding salt can change the reaction. It could be OK but maybe not. It's up to you if you want to gamble with your time and ingredients. If it's something your mother in law is going to eat - DON"T DO IT.

You can but the item will be saltier. If there is salt in the recipe back off the salt in the recipe.

If you want to play with fire, go ahead. I wouldn't screw around with something like that.
