I defrosted freshly caught tuna by leaving it in the refrigerator until completely thawed. Wasn't able to cook it until the day after. Would this still be ok to eat? My boyfriend said this shouldn't be done and he wouldn't risk it if he were me.

Please comment.

You should use the nose/smell test. Your boyfriend is afraid of bacterial contamination, even if he can't express it. If you can't smell odors, that means the bacteria is at a safe level and cooking will make the food fit for eating. All food contains some level of bacteria and that is why we cook them.

If you don't trust your sense of smell due to colds, etc, ask other people to smell.

It will be fine but don't eat it past the 4 day mark. The fresher the better. 3 is the limit.

If it were me I would eat it because if you keep food in a cold environment it will keep bacteria in the fish dormant untill warm. Also if you cook it it will kill all of the germs if they are there. I would try it and if I got sick I would not try it again.Ha,ha,ha,ha.

Smell it. If its funky then dont eat it. If you cant smell it ask someone (not your boyfriend) to smell it for you. But most likely it will be fine
