Prayer is talking to God.
The 'Lord's prayer' isn't a word by word thing you just have to do.
The verse says, "and Jesus showed the disciples HOW to pray"
not WHAT to pray.
...I love your Godmother. lol.

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ. "Do Catholics actually read the Bible?" Hmmm... Well, apparently, you only read the parts that suit your own doctrine and justify your position against Catholicism. Or are you going to contend that "Anyone who calls a religeous teaching authority Father" is going against Christ's meaning! Is that really your intent and are you SURE you want to stick with that?? Okay, you want to go with that. Well, let's just say I agree with you for a minute. I guess that St. Paul isn't a true Christian either. Let's go ahead and pull his letters out of the Bible and throw them away. After all, he refered to himself as "father" of congregations and Timothy in several instances as well as referring to Abraham as "Father". Don't know where? Apparently not since you probably don't read the whole Bible. Below is a quick reference from the Epistles only (Acts has some too) but I think it makes the point. Abraham as father: Romans 4:1 Romans 4:11 Romans 4:12 Romans 4:16 Romans 4:18 James 2:21 Isaac as father: Romans 9:10 Paul as father: 1 Corinthians 4:15 1 Corinthians 4:17 (Calls Timothy his son) 1 Corinthians 10:1 Galatians 1:14 Hebrews 3:9 Hebrews 8:9 1 Thessalonians 2:11 (Compares himself to a father) 1 Timothy 1:2 (Calls Timothy his son) 1 Timohty 1:18 (Calls Timothy his son) 1Timothy 5:1 (He says not to rebuke an elder 'Presbuter' aka 'Priest' but treat him as a "father") 2 Timothy 1:2 (Calls Timothy his beloved son) 2 Timothy 2:1 (Calls Timothy his son) Titus 1:4 ("common son under the faith"... Sounds like the Catholic understanding to me) Philemon 1:10 (son) Hebrews 12:5 (son) Peter as father: 1 Peter 5:13 (son) 2 Peter 3:4 A few of these could be argued that they are referring to Abraham and Isaac in the forefather sense, but the majority of them use it in the same way the Catholic practice is used. So, I guess they're wrong too huh? And before you offer the argue of "most of those he is calling someone son" well, if he is calling Timothy or anyone else his son, would he do that if he didn't expect them to regard him as a father figure (in the faith sense)? Or do you think maybe he was misleading them? Either way, let's just rip out those books because it just sounds to much like what Jesus was criticizing. Oh, wait... Since the Catholic church (as we believe) was established by Jesus Christ, then they were in the Catholic Church (even though it wasn't called the Catholic Church yet not for another 50 years or so). So, I guess you're right. We Catholics are getting it wrong all the way back to the beginning of our faith. :) Christ's peace be with you.

What ever's on my heart at the time. Sometimes I just need to talk to him like I'm talking to you now and at other times I may pray starting off saying Our Father thou art in heaven

Don't get funny. I'm sure God reads the questions and answers on here. I don't think he'll be amused by your question.
If he doesn't read them himself, he has angels who do.
