Yes in the great state of nebraska no these CI'S are known note: town of 20,000. Around here the recordings on CD's with CI# but snice it is a small town we all know the voices and papers on CI's are common to be out before trials. In alot of cases around here the CI will go be wired on one person or write a statement etc. and turn on around and buy from another person to satisfy their addiction. And no they aren't clean before court. So is this legal?

Its not in the sense "legal", but sometimes you have to let a small fish go to get the big fish. And if the small fish needs to satisfy an addiction, many law enforcement agencies "look" the other way, so long as the CI, continues to give good information that results in big busts. But sooner or later they all fall, by either getting arrested for some petty or even a major crime, "or", are found out by the big boys that they are CI's and get wacked.

It is legal for the cops to use a CI. If the information that the CI passes on is good and nets a few collars then the officer the CI works with often overlooks the CI's "habits".
If the info turns out to be bad then the CI can be arrested and charged.

First CI don't work for or even with the police, most are normally trading infomation to help get a reduced sentence or to get charges droped for something, CI are criminals thierself, normally.

And the CI normally is used only to be a warrant to search, so thier worth will depend on how many times they are right. If they give bad info too many times, the judge will not allow a warrant to be issued using that CI.

CI are not police officers are doing drugs is normally the lesser offense these people do

What a life!! So one can walk around and cop and use illegal drugs and all the attendant "bad behavior" that goes with the lifestyle and more or less, the local police will look the other way because of some petty-assed info they get. I understand it. I do. I know it's realistic and helps. I also understand let the small potatoes go in order to ultimately collar the Big Guys- but here's what I haven't read yet: we all know that "water seeks its own level"- eventually, schmucko is going to get "justice" from his colleagues on the street/bighouse and it's much more to the point than the law. So, it all works out in the end. Nobody can stand a stoolie, a rat.

If they provide reliable information then the cops will often look the other way. Let the little fish go in favor of the big fish. As long as the CI doesn't testify in court it's hard to refute their information. CIs are protected in many jurisdictions so it's pretty hard to attack what you can't legally discover.

Can Informants Do Drugs

2017-01-16 13:20:00 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Because,an informant is only there to give info. They are not there to actually bust you. They are able to do whatever they want, thay have no rules. All they are doing is talking. They just let the actuall cops or agents know what they need to know. They cant do their job by themselves! That's like a singer having to lip sing instead of using their own voice. Cause they could never make it on thier own

In most states, no it is not legal. But it's very hard to prove, especially since most law enforcement agencies train their informants on how to 'fake' using drugs. That, and since you never know who the informant was till it goes to trial, even if you demand a drug test, a lot of times the informant is clean because it's been several months.

Yes. To take down the big criminals, you sometimes have to work with unsavory characters. Haven't you ever watched a cop movie? Talk to Leonardo DiCaprio, he should know. Maybe then he will stop pretending to be a scientist.
