How do new york people speak (this is important so sensible answers please)?

I am doing "the godmother" in GCSE drama and need to speak in a new york accent and as I am english I don't know how that sounds, please help.

There is no good way for us to let you hear a thick new york accent by writing to you. I can tell you that a new yorker with a thick accent might pronounce it 'new yawk', or 'im making a pawk roast fa dinna', or 'hey, how ahh yuh?' but that would only give you a vague hint.

Instead, rent a movie that takes place in new york and is about working class people who have those accents. 'Mean streets' is one good choice, but 'The Godfather' seems like an obvious choice, doesnt it?

it depends what you want, in honesty new york does not have an accent because it is such a huge melting pot of cultures, of course there are areas within new york with accents, like there id a brooklyn accent a queens accent, and they are the most po pular "sterotypically" but new yorkers have no accent. To do Brooklyn the "r" ia said as a

Rent movies that have accents of new york or brooklyn or what kind of accent that you are going for.
