No...nowhere near it...he never won a big fight...Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes were well past their primes when he beat them both....he was never the same after he got knocked out by James Buster Douglas,...which was followed by defeats to Evander Holyfield and then to Lennox Lewis he never demonstrated a time when he faced adversity and still won...Tyson Never beat a giant of a great calibur...he may have had a chance if Cust'amado (his former trainer) had not died, Tyson was a more scientific fighter then, but once he lost Cust'amdo he was not the scientific fighter and was more of a brawler....so it was easy for other fighters to pick him apart..

No, he would not have. Tyson got exposed in the lost to Douglas. His aura of invincibilty was gone after that fight and Tyson banked on intimidating his opponents because if they are terrified even before the fight starts, then he's won half the battle. Once people saw he was a mere mortal in the Douglas fight, he didn't have that intimidation factor in his favor anymore. Fighters no longer feared to get in the ring with him. I don't think being insane had anything to do with it. Douglas beat him cause he wasn't afraid of him and actually fought him. So did Holyfield and Lewis. Plus i think when Kevin Rooney was let go that Mike's fighting style suffered greatly. He didn't move his head or jab or threw combinations nearly as much after Rooney left. He relied to much on one punch power and that clearly hurt him against Douglas. Ali was the greatest heavyweight of all time and Tyson would've never filled his shoes no matter what!

No way in my opinion he was very good for a very brief period, only cause he fought people he physically had the advantage if he was given points for attitude and rage then yea haha, but he didn't have the genetic tools to be even considered one of the best he was short and had less of a reach than most,I rather thought at the time he was doing great with his Rocky Marciano style was very cool and unique.I use to be a boxer myself was never in the pro ranks but always loved boxing is a real shame about Don King and his politics you guys know what I mean , im sure Tyson was even when he was great walked along and fought fighters he was expected to beat , wasn't it awsome when Evander demolished him, or when Mike bit his ears off haha. That's just an example of simple genetics Mike wasn't built to fight Evander.Mike seems to be very popular even now cause I guess people love to hate or like the bad guy . I think he has a good heart when in a calm mood but he just looses his mind when is in the pressure seat. Hes very high strung I guess, If you read this Mike please don't bite my ears off don't hate you dude just don't understand you sometimes. My all time favorite is ALI hands down the man made the impossible happen when he fought Foreman, that in my mind was history, even now I would be so honored to meet Ali hes a living legend in my mind.Anyway don't hate on me that's just my opinion, these days I watch UFC, and Pride fighting very cool stuff

Tyson had a great punch and that was all. He had one of the best mentors in D'Amata but Tyson didn't learn anything. I don't think it was a matter of being insane I think it was a matter of having a pea for a brain. Ali would have knocked him out in the 8th round.

He could have been, there was a time when even Ali was asking the question, but stupidity; his put an end to that. He will always be considered as a very good fighter who on his day could beat the greats but not the greatest.

mike tyson was and still is a good fighter, even though he lost that edge, and probably bipolar... was not and i repeat NOT.... the hardest puncher, had a glass jaw to a certain degree, and scared his opponents into losing with his craziness. anyone who was not afraid of him won, buster douglass an interim at best kicked the crap out of tyson.. marciano had a test punch at a military base, his punch lifted a thousand pound weight one foot off the ground, and would not have had the slightest fear of tyson. so my answer is no he would not have been the greatest, that's just my opinion of course

I like Ali. He probably would have been even better if he didn't have the problems with the draft and hence lost 3 prime years. But don't forget there's been some other great heavy weights too such as Rocky Marciano who was undefeated, Joe Lewis and Larry Holmes.

It wasn't his sanity that did him in, it was laziness. He stopped training.
If Tyson had kept it going through the period guys like Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis became champs, and if he was undefeated and defeated Holyfield, he would be in the argument. But his lack of quality wins hurts him as it stands. Nothing to do with sanity.

No. He had a terrific punch but I he is too short for a heavyweight.
His hands were quick but short too. Sometimes he didn't act like an intelligent boxer which is a most in the business. He had good reflexes but not outstanding. His private life was a mess and distracting for a good training. He should have retired sooner than he did.
