It's more than just what you're asking. God, who is perfect, sent His son, who was also perfect and sinless for the sole purpose of dying for me, and you. That son, Jesus Christ, was not sacrificed by God, Jesus laid down His own life, simply because He loved us that much. So although it would be a wonderous thing that a man would lay down his life for someone else, we can not equal ourselves with God, no matter what.

It would make me a martyr, and a very good friend. And in some way, it would be what Jesus Christ did, on a much smaller scale.
But the difference between the situation you've presented, and what Jesus Christ did, is that Jesus Christ had no sin Himself, so He was able to sacrifice Himself for us, not needing to pay a debt for His own sin. If a person with sins died for another it wouldn't do as a complete payment of all debts. He also took on much more than our sins -- he experienced our infirmities, disappointments, and troubles of every kind, so He can know how to succor us.

by using fact with a view to "hold your former state" you need to have a sacrifice in equivalent to the sin which you committed. it relatively is why Jesus had to be a suited guy, the comparable as Adam. If he were extra or much less the sacrifice could "no longer have equalled what were lost." by making use of giving his perfection up whilst adam threw his away the stability became restored. In different words, you are able to no longer GET something FOR no longer something. for this reason the fallen Angels have not anybody to die and redeem them. ought to He try this and not making use of a sacrifice? NO, no longer God, yet i would not have the two, hell, i could have wiped guy off the face of the Earth and all started over, so be happy he had a gadget of sacrifice and stability.

It would make you dead.
Seriously, if someone knew they'd be worshipped for millenia, who wouldn't sacrifice themselves for sins not even committed by billions of people after his death? It seems like a big deal to some Christians, but if you're the son of God, then dying on Earth is like graduating and becoming a surgeon. It's not a big deal, since your death will take you to a much better place.
However, for those who live in the real world, none of us are magic. When we sacrifice ourselves for someone else, it may make us good, great, bad, etc--but it will always make us dead:) BTW-- you are NOT a martyr just because you died for someone else. A martyr dies for a belief, cause, etc. If I jump in front of the president and take a bullet as my job, it doesn't make me a martyr. It makes me a great employee.

It would make you a hero, but it will never make you God.
There are three reasons:
1. You cannot sacrifice yourself for humanity as a whole. You can only sacrifice for one person or a group of persons, but God sacrificed Himself for all mankind.
2. You cannot sacrifice to wash away sins. You can sacrifice to save the life of a person, but unlike Jesus, you cannot sacrifice and wash away one's sin completely.
3. God became God for many reasons, not only because of His sacrifice for us. He created mankind and He is perfect. None of us can be like Him or even just half of Him.

Like a fireman? You'd be a hero. However, Jesus didn't just die physically for us - He died spiritually - when God withdrew His presence as the sins of the world were upon Him. The spiritual death was much worse that the physical one. It is this death, a death that only Jesus, fully human, fully God, could perform - as He is infinite, He died an infinite death for an infinite number of sins.

John 3:16 tells us that God sacrificed his only begotten Son, not himself.

If you give your life for a friend, wow, great and noble.
You on the other hand, was not born of a virgin and selected by heaven to save humanity. Plus most of us would never survive the beating.

First of all, I am not god. The fact that Christ sacrificed himself for my sins is not what made Him God. He was God before that and He still is. The comparison is invalid.
