Sometimes it means just that, he needs space. Give it to him and see what happens, but don't let him string you along forever like this.
Good Luck!!!

If you act like this around him that is why. In all actualiyt he has perobably not been honest with you but you enjoy the relationship so much and you are so happy that you have put your blinders up. I am willing to bet that he is either cheating on you or he thinks things are moving to fast and is scared and wants you to break up with him..
How is your sex life? and how was his before? Have you ever discussed what type of things each other didi in the past. maybe he wants something but is afraid to ask.
If you play hard to get t will make it easy for him to not get you.
Really just let him do what he has to do or it will get worse. 9 months is not long enough for some guys to reallly figure out what they want. they get in those stages of puppy love where everything is great and that is when they think they want to marry a girl and then you become a real person.
there are so many things that it could be.
I stil bet he is cheating on you though.

the break 90% means a real break up! The most probable is him having interest in someone else not necessarily having an affair, he might has fallen for another girl. You should tell him that a break is not possible and he should think what he really wants! Hope everything turns out well and that you are just phasing a crisis as every couple! Don't press him!And stay calm ;o)

When someone says they "need time' it's over, sorry I know that is not what you want to hear but I have never known of anyone who has asked for "space" that hasn't been on their way out the door....
You need to give him space though....maybe this will be a rare time when he discovers life with out you isn't that great. I had a boyfriend who broke up wit me every year around christmas, he was an idiot, don't waste your time, any of your time on him for a while, find ohter things to do and at least appear to be busy and happy, if he isn't really ready to walk it'll teach him...good luck.

He could be getting scared at the thought of settling down or having 1 woman for the rest of his life. It'd definitely NOT a good sign, so I'd recommend taking the mature route - ask him if you two can talk and sit down in a quiet place and ask him what's going on with him. Don't be accusatorial or cry or complain...just listen to what he has to say. That's the only way to get to the bottom of this and find out for REAL what's going on. Scrap the games and find out now so you don't waste any more of your time.

there is no such thing as "time" it is an abtract concept
this is not a clear communication
he is obfuscating but why?
sounds like he does not want to be with you anymore
and the catch 22 is the more you try to figure it out or pull him in or resist his state what ever that is - the more he will resent your fat needy a s s
if i were you
i would decline and counter offer.
let him know you want to see other people starting right now
say lets take 6 months and see who's out there
but babe ......you gotta mean it when you say it and really go out with other people - not like that crap film the break up with Jennifer Aniston - she was only pretending trying to manipulate Vince Vaughns character - and you saw how that bull s h i t approach back fired .....really see who else is out there......
maybe someone who doesn't need bull s h i t time?

It means he just needs a little space to do those guys things he wants to do. Or he found another woman.Don't keep hounding him though, let him have some space and see if he is the same in 3 months of leaving him alone.

Give him what he asked for...... At the same time try not to show any hard feelings towards the situation. You said yourself your like best friends. Don't nag him about or bring it up. Only discuss it if he brings it up. This could go either way so you might want to prepare yourself for not being in his life as his girlfriend, and being demoted to just BFF.... Good Luck!!!!!!

You sound like me. In a relationship for about 8 months (hot and heavy) she was everything I was looking for. She said I was everything she was looking for. Then all of a sudden! BAM! "Can we just be friends?" I'm not the one for you and you're not the one for me!" I'm like what?
Turns out, she fell in love and didn't want to fall in love right now. She's fighting with herself on this, as I kept pushing to get back with her. She gave in but a few days later, is pulling back again. I just am puzzled as you are.
I think in my heart of hearts we are right for each other, unless she put on a huge mask only to give me what I wanted. If that's the case, she's one hell of an actress.
Give him the space he needs. He might not be ready to give you everything you need. He's probably fighting with himself on this, and that's the reason for his anger.
Good luck, just try your best not to push it.

Its hard to say exactly what he need when he asks for the space.. but its probably not good, in my personal experence when a partner asks for space it usually means that they are loosing interist in the releationship and want to move on and just having a hard time actually doing it, hope i'm wrong but i'm sorry to say that its probably not good....

That depends on why he ask for time. Are you seeing too much? have you been too possesive lately and maybe he has less time?
IF thats so, give him time, as he ask, theres nothing wrong.
Dont play hard to get, that works only at the begining of the relationship.
