Muscle relaxers are drugs that cause your muscles to relax. They are often used to help alleviate pain from pulled muscle injuries or physical tension.
Skelaxin is one common example. Valium also works that way.
Taking the proper dosage prescribed by a doctor is not likely to make you "pass out", but they can make you drowsy.

Valium is a muscle relaxer. It doesn't exactly make you pass out, but because of the relaxing of the muscles and decrease in tension throughout the body, it can aid in sleeping. If you take a normal dose, you won't pass out. I suppose if you took a ton you'd mess yourself up pretty badly, though.

Fexerall, Zanaflex, are prescribed to relax muscles in tension. They are commonly prescribed along with a pain killer such as Vicoden, and Percocet. Valium is often mistaken for a muscle relaxer, however, it is classified as a Anti- Anxiety.

Vikadin and skelaxin are two I'm familiar with. skelaxin is designed so it loosens your muscles up but it doesn't have the effects of drowsiness. Vikadin is another matter. . . they knock me for a loop, I took one and was limp as a noodle for about 4 hours, haha much to the amusement of my family. I was in a Car accident and i found i preferred the skelaxin.

muscle relaxers are exactly what the name implies, they loosen up tense muscles. A common medicine is soma, and they have different affects on everyone but it may make you drowzy.
