Sorry I know what you mean i had the same thing yesterday. I took 2 pain killers. Then, I took a really hot shower and let the water run on my neck for about twenty minutes. I put the heating pad on it for a bout a half an hour. This loosened the muscles. You might need to go to a chiropractor. My neck was also very out of place putting a large amount of stress on my muscles causing them to spasm. If you haven't been to a chiropractor don't worry they are not scary.

do NOT put heat on this!!! ice it for 20 minutes at a time, repeat once the skin returns to normal temp. repeat as often as you'd like, but at least 3 times today. you need to get the inflammation down in that area~ ice is the only way to do this!
an anti-inflammatory such as motrin will help as well.
the best, as one other poster suggested, is a chiropractor. my experience with them has been great.
best wishes & feel better soon!

Go see a doctor or other health care provider. He or she can rule out any more serious cause (stroke, pinched nerve, meningitis, etc.) and if all else fails, give you a cortisone shot with an anesthetic in it. This occasionally happens to me (generally in my shoulder, however) and the shots, plus a prescription muscle relaxer, usually help. For chronic episodes, your doctor/HCP can even refer you to a physical therapist who can show you how to stretch the affected muscle (assuming it is just that and not due to some serious underlying cause....). And treat yourself to a massage at the spa! Poor kid - hope you're feeling better soon!

I had to go to the doctor (MD, DO) when this happened to me. He gave me acupuncture and moved me around a bit. I was better by the next day. I loved it.
It is important to go to your doctor and rule out meningitis. Meningitis is classically pain full neck and headache.

Severely stiff painful neck can be caused from meningitis. Also a slipped disc can cause a severe pain. What are your other symptoms? See a doctor. God Bless. MerryChrist'mass.

Wow. Did you try moist heat and some Motrin/Ibuprofen? If so and it didn't help, how about getting someone to take you to the doctors?
