The number of things we humans don't understand is vast, way past the ability of even the most devoted counter to count, but atheists aren't saying that humans know everything. To the contrary, we look to science for information about the universe, and science is always reevaluating. The search for knowledge never ends, even when we think we understand something well.
Religion, on the other hand, asserts that those who wrote their scriptures millennia ago knew all there is to know about everything.

Why must there be more than what we see? The Wizard of Oz wasn't real. There's no time portal in the Bermuda Triangle. The world doesn't rest on Atlas' shoulders. And the earth goes around the sun. Most of our myths and legends have been found out to be either untrue altogether or misinformed guesses. Why should an invisible God who left no evidence of himself receive special treatment? I'm about as open-minded as you can get which is probably why I'm an atheist. Open your own mind why don't you?

Why are Christians, Islamics, Jews, Republicans, Politicians, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, Protestants, Pro-Lifers, CEO's, etc, etc, etc, so close minded? Vague questions deserve vague answers. A great majority of the world is close minded, otherwise why would there continue to be so much hate and racial indifference.

I'm pretty open minded. I believe in atoms yet I cannot see them. Photons. Electrons. Electromagnetic "waves". There are scads of things I cannot fully comprehend that I take on faith. Describe how a god fits into that system of beliefs and how anybody could test it and maybe I can believe in it too.

You came to that conclusion.
Atheist study, and come to the conclusion that God is not possible. It doesnt mean they are weak minded. And by asking this question, it wont help them to be more interested in learning about God even if they were on the fence about him.

I think standing firm can sometimes be construed as 'closed-mindedness'. I think every single beliefs system has atlease a little bit of it...if someone could waver so easily, why bother believing in anything, right?

There is SO much more than what is right in front of us... the Earth and Universe are amazing intricities that we can only begin to scratch the surface of understanding,,,that doesn't mean there's anything supernatural about it.

i dont think athiest people are close minded. i think they just like the church or temple system we have right now, which is more like a business than a religion. i think they are spiritual but not religious. i'm sure deep down they know there is higher power...they just dont want to admit it..

Isn't someone who absolutely believes in their religion just as closed minded as an atheist?
