I'll bet you had work done on bottom teeth, huh??
The injection to numb your bottom teeth numbs the whole side of your jaw. The dentist I work for numbed me for a filling once and I was numb for six hours. It's normal. You can eat, just stay away from anything too hot. You don't want to burn yourself. Grab some yogurt or jello to get something on your stomach until the feeling comes back and you can eat something more substantial.
Happy Holidays!

It's the way local anaesthetics (LA) work.
For lower teeth in particular, the effects of a numb face can last a long time and 3-5 hours is not unusual.
What you don't realise is that the tooth is only effectively numb for 60 mins, and you would start to feel tooth pain if the dentist was still working on you after this time.
LAs that wear off your face faster will unfortunately wear off your teeth faster too. A plain prilocaine solution might only give 15 mins of dental anaesthesia and 2 hours of face anaesthesia, and that's cutting it too close for many dental procedures.

Yea, I had a tooth removed and the numbing lasts quiet a while...but definately not over night or anything...I remember about 5 hours, actually

Your dentist was mighty generous with the local anaesthetic. It will come back to normal after a while. See if washing your mouth with warm water will draw the medication out. Otherwise, just leave it alone. It just needs time.

i say give it another hour or so...some people take a little longer to wear off than others...try taking a nap and by the time you get up youre feeling will be back.
