When any media file loads, windows media player starts and automatically expands to full screen. I lose any control and most of the time it will not close. I have to turn off the computer using the power button. Any sugestions as to how to solve this?

Alt + F4 or hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete, click the "Task Manager" button and select media player and tell it "end task"

Download another media player, and set it as default for the media you will be opening. Also Quicktime is often offered as an alternative to Windows Media Player when viewing files online.
