yESTERDAY ,I was approached by some "money launderers" from Gabon, Africa as I have a business for sale. They told me that they have diplomatic passports which they can get with the right connection very easily. That is ,they dont have to be government or consulate officials.
Seeing as those with diplomatic immunity can go thru customs like it doesnt exist ,why is this not being addressed by those who are securing our borders against terrorism?

I know in Canada, go to the RCMP website and they have a section to report these types of frauds.

I am not certain about passports, but sounds serious.

Good luck!

These Gabonese might very well be scamming you. Did they actually show you their passports and diplomatic visas? While diplomatic passports are indeed sometimes available to people in some countries that have connections, actually getting a visa to travel to the US, Canada or elsewhere is a completely different matter. We consular officers know very well whether or not dip passports are taken seriously in the countries where we serve, and are very conservative about who we give diplomatic visas to, whatever the color of their passports.

Besides, I have been a diplomat for 21 years, and have often been invited to open my suitcase for customs in many different countries. I always comply. They are entitled to know what I'm carrying - they just can't charge (or try to shake me down for) customs fees.

* I am not going to insult your intelligence by saying these folks are obviously scam artists (am I?)

* Otherwise, no shi t Sherlock, some rogue nations have used their diplomatic bags to shift dodgy materials. The Libyans sent explosives to Germany to use in a nightclub bombing in Berlin this way back in the 1980s. Earlier the North Koreans sent drugs this way - they were even daring enough to try and declare an entire truck full of duty-free liquor as a 'diplomatic bag'.

* However few countries now would be tempted to misuse the provisions of the diplomatic bag. Although, as aforementioned, diplomatic immunity still requires that you submit yourself to proper immigration procedures
