okay heres my question, why is it that people who have to get government help are looked down on? i mean, if a girl gets raped and pregnant because of it, and shes trying to find work but cant seem to get hired, should she have to deal with people looking down on her? I am pregnant with my second child (first one is 3 now) and it wasnt just a "reckless sex" accident. if i was raped and pregnant, and i dont agree with abortion, why should people say, its my tax money paying for you, blah blah blah if they dont even know whats going on? ive heard that already more than once in a few diferent answers on here. and im just wondering....what yall think of it? am i really that wrong? or am i paranoid or what?

I don't have a problem with people who are trying to better themselves by finding jobs that pay well. I'm a single parent and understand that money is tight! I do however have a problem with the people who sit on the a**es all day and do nothing and collect government checks.
I am a property manager in CA and you would not believe what I see. I have one resident who is on housing (govt. pays her rent), she has food stamps, cash aid and collects child support. She is not disabled and she does not work. She just sits around...that's what pisses me off!

It is called ignorance, people do not think of why someone is on it. It is just easier to put people down.
My son is disabled, before this his health bills are enormous. Make a long story short my son gets disability, along with this comes medical and food stamps (which we do not get the food stamps). Anyhoo I am VERY embarrassed to use the food stamps. We need them I know this and we have talked about getting them (have had them before but I got ashamed, I even started crying one day when using them). We can not afford to have Christmas this year, hopefully we can get the kids something? We do not except hand outs (if we have to I will cut off internet access). Some bills came up and they have to be taken care of.
Anyhoo I am told that I should not be ashamed of having a kid who is like he is. I do not not blame him, and feel lucky I get to stay home (I have health problems as well). The disability has helped with his schooling and special classes. We have learned to live without but he has security and a home.
People do not think or they just see the people who abuse the system. There are many who do abuse the system, those of us who do not, people do not see this. They just get upset for they have bills too. This gives know one a right to shame others who do get on the system though. If these people realize how degrading it is to be in the system maybe they would not be so mean?..

Because for every person who truly needs assistance, there are even more who take advantage of it. I agree, in some situations, I can completely understand that some people would need assistance. However, I have also known people who can't seem to afford food for their kids, but can afford to rent movies and buy hair color and cigarettes. You're right, many people instantly judge others without knowing the situation, and it's not a good thing or even right. You're not paranoid, you're just aware. But all you can do is try to ignore those types of comments, and remember that the people who make them don't know you. And do your best to try not to judge others, the way others judge you.

Obviously some people are in true need of public assistance, but unfortunately there are a lot of freeloaders in the world, who tarinsh the reputations of everyone who needs help. Surely everyone is not judgemental of people on welfare- but if they see a young woman with a small child and a second on the way, I can see where some people may jump to conclusions, even if they are wrong. You shouldn't have to defend your decisions or justify them to anyone- if people are critical, it's likely they just don't know you. So just hold your head up high, ignore them the best you can, and do your best to raise your kids the best way you know how.

It's because it's unacceptable to many people. I believe that if someone can't afford to take care of children without government help, they shouldn't have them! If you get raped and end up pregnant, have your family help. There is also a thing called adoption. Have you ever heard of that? Welfare wasn't around when my parents and aunts and uncles were kids. So here's what I think of your rape scenario: My aunt was raped when she was 12. She also got pregnant. There was no welfare or abortion back then so guess what, she had the family help her. My grandmother was pregnant with my father at the same time. My dad was born in February, my cousin was born in March. My aunt couldn't breastfeed so my grandmother did. My aunt wasn't the oldest; she had 2 older brothers. They worked as well as her older sister. That's how my cousin was taken care of. As far as not able to get a job; you have to be kidding me. There are so many temporary agencies out there. I work for one. So what you're pregnant. I would love to stay at home with my kids but can't. I have to go to work so I can pay for all these welfare mommas to sit on their behinds all day long. Life is just so fair isn't it?

Well, to a degree it is true, their tax money is supporting the people on government support. That gives them no right to judge you because of it, each situation is different and some people get stuck and need help. It is the people who do not look for work and keep on making babies they know they can't support that give everyone on Public Assistance a bad name. Don't worry about what they think, just do what you need to do to take care of your family, just don't get used to the public assistance, continue to try and find a way to support your family, or soon enough you will find yourself becoming the stereotype that people complain about.

If you honestly NEED it and not just using the loop holes then you go right ahead and use what people say as 'tax dollars' which it is, to help people in need! Let them complain, they obviously havent had a hard time in life!!
I am 22 and a mother of 3 I was on assistance for 5 years while i went to school without the assistance i would have had to resort to other things that those same people whould have frowned upon. Now thanks to their tax dollars i will be a Psycologist better than what most of those complainers are doing and i will be glad if someone is using my tax dollars to better themselves!!!!

i would never look down on anyone getting help. the only time i get a little upset is when i see someone with 6 kids, and no job, and they have like 3 or 4 different "baby daddy" and none of them are paying child support to help the mother. but i also try not to judge people too quickly. sometimes people don't think the situation is different from what it looks like.

Some people just want a reason to look down on other people because they think they're better than everyone else. If their tax money (and mine too) wasn't going to that, the government would find somewhere else for it to go to. Sorry for your situation and I'm glad you're making the best of it! Good luck!

Here is my opinion on what people gets from the goverment: the people that talk about it and look down on others are jealous because they are not getting some extra help whether it be from foodstamps, medical cards or HUD to pay their rent.
Who cares what people thinks about this. I say this if you can get whatever kind of help you can then go for it.

If i could get welfare somehow i would. I can't though but if i did i wouldn't be ashamed of it. If i did go and sign up on welfare it wouldn't help me none because they would just go after my husband's paycheck so it wouldn't do me any good.

I guess people are jealous when someone jerks out a foodstamp card and pays for their food while they jerk out their cash.
It is money either way so who cares. I know i don't.
