I know that if you pierce your eyebrow, you can risk paralyzing your face if you hit a nerve. This makes sense because of the concentration of senstive nerves there (hence why plucking brows HURTS so much!) I heard this same risk for piercing the ear cartilage, but only once or twice. Is this true? How dangerous is getting your cartilage pierced?

you got to watch cause if someone don't know what they are doing.. cause there are veins in your cartilage.....i had mine done since i was 15 and im 23 and i got 16ga in my left cartilage and i got 18ga in my right helix which is dangerous cause they wont pierce it you got to go 2 a body piercer for that... honestly i wouldn't get my left helix pierced only cause its the worst pain..... its nothing like a cartilage part its thinner and thats why the helix hurts more then a cartilage but i don't know everyone is defferent and everybody's body is different as well * Healing Time 3 - 12 months, depending on the amount of cartilage pierced * Do not touch your piercing with unwashed hands * Do not let others touch it while it is healing * Clean your healing piercing once a day only, using antibacterial soap * Wash and dry your hair before piercing, and frequently thereafter * Never use alcohol swabs, Betadine, hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil to clean your piercing * Pain, redness and unusual discharge may be due to infection. Consult your piercer or a physician if you develop any of these symptoms * Take vitamin C and zinc to maximise your healing * Wait till your piercing is healed before changing jewelry yourself

I think a few people are a little confused between cartilidge piercings and regular lobe piercings. Both need to be taken care of and cleaned on a regular basis to avoid infection but cartilidge piercings are slightly more dangerous then lobes since your cartilidge is like a softer form of bone. Your lobes are just made up of fat and skin cells. But you should not have any problems as long as you go to a proper tattoo/piercing parlour where all of their tools and needles are properly sterlizied using regulated hospital equipment. I've had my cartilidge done and it only hurt for a second - and that wasn't the needle going through - the pain was mostly due to the clamp they use to mark where they will pierce. They give you directions on how to care for it - make sure to follow them and try to keep your hair away from the area while it is healing and avoid getting hair products on the area. The only reason why cartilidge piercings were thought of dangerous before was because they used to pierce your cartilidge with the gun that they use for regular lobe piercing - in many cases due to the impact of the gun the cartilidge was shattered - that is why you MUST get it done at a reputable tattoo parlour with a needle.

Getting your ears pierced is not that dangerous. You just need a little bit of common sense. Cartilage does not have nerves - it's cartilage for goodness sake! What hurts is the pinch, just like any other pinch. The trick is to keep the hole clean from infection.
When I was born, my mother had both my ears pierced. I was a baby then - obviously it's not that dangerous. It's tradition in the Spanish culture.
When I was older, I wanted to add another hole next to the standard ones. I got it done at a jewelry store, not a fake jewelry store like Claire's. They gave me this solution which I did not like. So what I did was remove the earring, wash in warm water without soap, replace the earring, then add peroxide and twist the earring periodically to ensure it wouldn't close up. Never had an infection. With eyebrow piercing they need to insert a tube or something to hold the pierce shape. But cartilage is the easiest part to pierce.

I've got a tragus (the front part of your ear by your cheek), anti-tragus (the part just above your earlobe) and rook (the ridge of cartiledge running from inside youir ear towards the outside of your ear to the top)...all through cartiledge and all healed fine with no infections or "going blind" (that answer was just plain silly)

it's no more dangerous than any other piercing, so long as you go to a reputable place with fully trained and qualified staff...and you look after it properly!! i've had friends who've moaned about their new piercings because they haven't looked after them properly and they got infected. gangrene only happens in the very worst case scenarios by the way...

if you get it done by some1 who knows what theyre doing, its not very dangerous, but that also depends on if you take care of it well.
so go to a place with a good rep. && take good care of it, and nothing should go wrong

You can go blind apparently coz nerves run thru the upper part of cartilage, and u never know if the piercing's gonna hit it.
