I am looking for a cockatoo to adopt - I am the proud owner of a conure and would love to rescue an unwated cockatoo !

please seriously consider this decision. first of all, check out www.mytoos.com they have all the info about 'toos. cockatoos are EXTREMELY loud, messy and destructive. they are incredibly demanding and so much work. they are prone to misbehavior such as feather picking, excessive screaming, biting etc. they are much different from having a conure. that's really great that you want to rescue a bird, but take a look at this site first. also, i suggest that you subscribe to BIRD TALK, a great magazine about pet birds. they have a lot of useful information. make sure you check out that site!! good luck!

It would help to know where you're from.
You can always try www.petfinder.com
Even if they don't have any cockatoos listed near you right now, you can probably figure out where the rescues are that are near you and sign up with them.
Also, try doing an internet search for "avian rescue" or "bird rescue" with your city and state.
