Recycling is a lost cause if no one buys recycled items. Anyway, we should be reusing instead of recycling.

I always print on both sides of the paper. Then when I'm done with the notes, I use it as scrap paper for studying. The same goes for letters and junk mail I receive.

I agree, many people are not very environmentally friendly. If everyone just got into the habit of recycling, things would be so much better.

Paper recycling is the process of converting waste paper into a usable product. Paper recycling typically implies the reprocessing of waste paper fibres back into a usable paper product.

Steps of the procedure typically include:
* Collection, truck transport and industrial sorting of the waste paper product
* Mechanically converting the waste paper into mulch
* Mixing the mulch with clean water to create a slurry
* Chemically treating the slurry to separate the paper fibers
* Chemically bleaching the slurry to whiten the product
* Extracting the remaining chemical slurry (broth) to form new sheets of paper.

I think that in some country paper recycling is not very widely promoted because some of the above steps are too expensive to be performed in a large scale. But in most Central Europe countries (Austria, Switzerland, Germany, etc), recycling of paper is not only encouraged, but almost compulsory. People get into real troubles if an inspection is performed in the "normal" bin and recycling materials are found in it. Not only paper, but also glass, plastic, textiles and metal. (I know because I live in Austria)

Something to be inspired by!

Good question - it's just become a habit to use one side of the paper only. When I started work in a Solicitor's (Attorney's) Office 45 years ago, files were made from old envelopes. I heard stories of another office where every inch of every piece of paper was used (made filing very difficult though!)

That is soo true. I work at a law firm, where we use hundreds of paper everyday & we don't print on both sides, nobody does!! We should start printing front and back, so at least we could save half of what we use, everyone should!
