Duh! to the first person! OK so I don't know the ins and outs of salmonella or food poisoning. But I think the question is why can a cat or any other animal eat raw food that would make us really sick.

In answer to that, they have tougher digestion systems, that kill all the bacteria. Although I think cats are quite choosy about not eating old yucky food.

The simple answer is that they do - but only if the meat was infected to start with. There is no way of telling by looking if a chicken is infected which is why you should always cook them. You shouldn't feed raw chicken to your cat.

Because the chicken has to be infected with salmonella to be able to pass it on to your cat.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but raw chicken - as sold in the UK's butchers and supermarkets - would be condemned as unfit for consumption if it were riddled with salmonella.

i agree with as you like it, and a cats enzymes in its stomach are four times the strength of humans as are birds and rats
