Atheists get a bad rap (some sources claiming that Atheists are more despised than terrorists). Why do *you* not like Atheists, in general?

some are self-rightous and under the conviction that they posses the absolute truth and are the authorities on all things under the sun.

I don't "not like atheists, in general".

I dislike name-calling, in anyone. I dislike smug self-righteousness, in anyone. I dislike purposeful rudeness and insults, from anyone.

These are not exclusive to atheists. But I don't like them more in atheists than in anyone else.

I respect atheists' non-belief.

And they certianly ought to have the same rights to run for and hold office as any religious person.

I have no problems with atheists. I'm sure I can sit down and have a civil discusssion with any atheist about our beliefs.

I feel bad for atheists when christians say they are devil worshipers, or are going to hell, or whatever. I do not take kindly to someone telling me I am brainwashed, because I have studied them all , and have even been atheist. Respect me and I'll respect you, disrespect me and I will still love you.

I don't dislike Atheists. Just don't accept their belief.

------- ATHEISTS ----- 2006----------
The Bible says God rewards
those who diligently seek Him. Most atheists never find God because they never honestly look for Him.
Does God exist? If so, why can't atheists find Him?
Many Christians were once atheists. In fact, you could visit almost any Christian church and find members of the congregation who formerly did not believe in God. So it is not true to say that atheists cannot find God, because countless numbers have found Him.
But the Bible gives a reason why many atheists don’t find God. It says:
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
This shows that the reason many atheists never find God is because they never honestly look for Him. Christians who have been spiritually born-again know that God does reward those who seek Him — but not those who don't seek Him or those who don't care.
God's astounding promise
That astounding Bible promise in Hebrews 11:6, that God rewards those who diligently seek Him, has been proved by millions. But the first step — to come to God having faith that He exists — is the one most atheists never take. They say there is no God, yet they do not take even the first step to find Him.
People who scoffingly refuse to believe that God exists are like the old man who kept saying no one could ever reach the top of Sky Mountain. Mountain climbers passed the old man’s cottage near the base of the mountain every day and said they had climbed to the top of the mountain. He refused to believe them, so never took that first step to find out it was true.
It is probably fair to say that most born-again Christians wonder whether atheists have a screw loose in their brains. To Christians who have received God's Holy Spirit in their lives, and know how real this is, the atheist's claim that God doesn't exist seems like childish rebellion.
An atheist who tells a Christian there is no God might as well say the Chrtistian has no body. The Christian just thinks it is a ridiculous thing to say.
Depending on how an atheist announces his or her unbelief, the Christian will either feel pity for the atheist, or wonder how to get the atheist's intelligence and logic up to scratch.

I don't dislike atheists.
But, I am laughing due to the question posted before yours. This may be why someone does not like an atheist. (assuming "angry smash you to tiny pieces" guy is an atheist)

That they try to force everyone else into their beliefs. If they don't like prayer in school, In God We Trust on money, The Ten Commandments in court houses, etc... then Shut up!!!!, and let the other 86% of our country do as we want.

Don't pray! Write checks or use a debit card! Stay out of trouble , and jail! That way you don't have to go to a court house! etc.

See we let you do what you want, then why do you force your beliefs onto others?

I, in general, like atheists because we are thoughtful, insightful, reasonable, moral, and intelligent.

There are those who are attached to non-reasonable ideologies no different from religion, but in general, skeptics about religion are skeptical of just about any ideology.

I don't dislike them, I just feel bad... and they dont get the worst rap, Christians do. I wouldn't mind sitting down and talking with an athesit for a while. I think they're just a bit to closeminded thats all.

Nothing, I dislike no one, but I can feel sadness for them because upon their death the fear for them will be great and that would be a scary thing. We have this identity crisis where we have forgotten why we are alive and where we are to be going, its rather scary to be lost.
